How much did the EV and solar cost to make this statement? $120K ballpark?
LOL. A 12mw system costs $20k but I got 30% off that with tax incentives. My EV cost $57k. I saved about $300 a month for house with solar and its been 3 years so I've saved about $11k. My EV has saved about $3k a year in gas and i've had it about 2.5 years so about $8k. So my $12.5k solar system is almost breakeven in less than 4 years with just my house electricity as offset. The EV is just a bonus.
I'm actually hugely positive in surplus so if I get another EV, it will actually be breakeven in the energy i use vs. the energy i produce.
I pass by the gas station near my house and am so thankful I never have to stop there. Regular is nearly $5. In the last two months I think I paid less than $40 to "fill-up" my Polestar, and I'm already at 1,500 miles

Unlike a deck, or a swimming pool, or an additional room, Solar not only adds value to your property, but actually pays for itself. Plus you don't get any tax incentives for a deck or a pool. I bet if he remodeled his kitchen you would think that was an OK addition and expense
We've been paying $4-5 per gallon for what seems like a few years now. Forgive me for not feeling sorry for East Coasters lol
Oh, I agree that the D.C. area hasn't had it as bad as some other parts of the country. I mentioned that in my OP.....and a number of the commenters in this thread have verified that. And the many relatively high incomes in the D.C. area also help some people ride it out.
