Hybrid Tundra reviews are out. MPG is behind FORD

The hybrid-only TRD Pro lists for $68,500, while the Capstone goes for $75,225.

Pretty significant improvement over the V8's numbers. For reference, the EPA estimates on mine are 13 city, 17 highway, and 14 combined.

At an EPA-estimated 22 mpg combined for rear-wheel-drive models and 21 mpg for four-wheel-drive trucks, the Tundra's hybrid powertrain is 7 mpg more efficient than the outgoing model's 5.7-liter V-8. It's rated at up to 20 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway in its two-wheel-drive configuration, though adding four-wheel drive knocks 1 mpg off in the city and 2 mpg on the highway.

and you dont get the big discounts like you can with the domestics. The domestics are going to come out priced lower. 75k is 3/4 ton diesel territory if someone really wanted to tow something, those get 22 mpg also

Indeed, but I wouldn't be buying the hybrid for the fuel mileage, I'd be buying it for the much better torque.

Wastegate issues popping up to where it's an easy search. Not sure the actual size and scope of the problem, but eh. "15MPG and an indestructible 5.7L V8 don't sound too terrible now" seems to be consensus from a lot. Gas prices will go back down.

The wastegate issue is disappointing, no doubt, but they'll get it worked out. The web always makes thing seem bigger than they are. Go on to the Tundras forum and read page after page after page of new owners who are very happy and not having any issues.

My guess is that this is a small defect. Not a HUGE issue widespread. I think the first 5.7 motors for the Tundra were defective very early on as well back in 2007

Agreed.

And the 5.7 is a great engine, no doubt, and I love mine. But they have NEVER fixed the cam shaft tower leaks. Still happening on 2021 engines.

$75,000 for a loaded hybrid Capstone sounds about right. You wont get discounts off MSRP on domestic trucks right now.

Was that the early flaw? I don't recall but I thought it needed an engine replacement or something. It has been forever.

Agree, I’m sure it will get worked out. Same thing here, we report problems but there are countless unknown lovers of their cars who don’t post.

a local Ram dealer is doing 8k off Limiteds, a local Ford dealer is doing MSRP on King Ranches. F150s had weaker discounts during normal times than other trucks cuz #1 selling truck.

No discounts on Rams here.

Honestly...I like the Tundra better than the Ram...haven't driven it obviously.
