Excellent post!
What Tesla offers as features is at the whim of Elon. There was a tweet that asked Elon if he could add HUD and he basically said no....the car will be autonomous soon so you won't really need that feature. Elon thinks video games are cool...Apple Carplay...not so much. The entire segment is a compromise built to a price point of course. I couldn't even get memory seats on my $50k IS350 and the Tesla comes with a security system and dashcam...i don't see that feature on any of other cars in the segment. The Model 3 is relatively cheaper than the same cars in the segment too as it starts at $35k (which you can still order at a Tesla dealer off-menu) so lots of compromises at that price point.

Looks like Model 3 owners get used to it after a while. The only complain some have is not having an option for Apple/Android carplay. But anyone saying looking down for everything is safer than HUD is definitely trolling.

So now that I have said my part about HUDs up displays. You can actually buy a Lexus UX electric with a heads up display, a proper sunroof, cooling seats or whatever Lexus might offer. I have said this time and time again, the large manufacturers have a manufacturing advantage when they can bundle in the cost and development of a ICE/Hybrid/Plug in and then bring in electric options....Tesla actually has a manufacturing disadvantage as economies of scale are limited. Tesla can’t even get the doors on the model Y to open or glass roofs to stay on the roof lol.

Not everyone wants an electric to go supersonic speeds. some want luxury features. A nice ride. Heads up display features or even Apple car play. (Still find it overrated). There are trade offs for one thing vs another...

Now that the Hummer details have been released. Is there any doubt the new Escalade will NOT have the Hummer EV powertrain....it will likely happen but you get all the luxury trimmings as well. As it’s all baked into the costs.

It's settled then, Tesla is going down because they don't have a HUD option. 🤪 Notice how the thread TITLE is totally ignored and the usual suspects latch onto one thing to beat Tesla over the head with and make themselves feel better about the fact their chosen auto company can't compete with Tesla at all.

Meanwhile Tesla owners got more range, for free.

Tesla Model 3 bumper has an annoying habit of falling off when it drives through water

Not sure how this could be spun....I have never heard of a bumper falling off after driving through water

Tesla already admitted it was an engineering defect and has since been addressed

They fixed the bumper issue by the May 2019 build. The ones after have a different undercover that prevents water from getting in. Non-issue since last year.

Calm down man, I'm just questioning why Tesla wouldn't/won't/can't adopt a very helpful OPTION that I think I lot of people would/do want.

IMO. If Tesla were to do something like a HUD. It would be something built into the glass...Toyota is working on something like that or might even have ot already in the Japan models or something...some type of AR or something along those lines. (But let’s not give Toyota any credit if they are developing such a piece of glass)

The issue with developing such a piece of glass vs using a projection is cost of replacement. Windshields are a wear item, and are very commonly replaced.

The time for such a thing may come, but my guess is a projection makes a lot more sense.

I agree and it is weird that Elon is so against HUD. Its relatively cheap to implement and the Model 3 is highly profitable on a per car basis at greater than 20% gross margin which means, they have a lot of wiggle room to put in something like HUD. I think he's just being Elon and if he doesn't like it, oh well...
