I'll agree that Toyota, as an entire corporation, does know how to make money, but there are a number of other vehicles that also make a boatload of cash for their companies. Just look at what Ford and GM make on their full-sized/truck-based/BOF SUVs and trucks....arguably the highest margins any mass-produced vehicles in the industry.
By the way, welcome back, Ryan. I see you've been posting some lately. You've been gone from CL a long time.
‘And you don’t think Toyota has the same margins on their body on frame models?

Possibly. I don't know every price-margin on every vehicle. My point was, however, that high-margin vehicles were not limited to Toyota products. Ford and GM were, not long ago, (reportedly) making a average 10K profit on mark-ups on high-zoot versions of their BOF trucks and SUVs. They can charge what they do because of the enormous popularity of some of them, like the F-150 and Silverado.

But when the domestics offer "Employee Pricing For All" or "$15k Customer Cash" on these same trucks, it makes me laugh. Huge incentives hurt resale value. How much profit are they really making by overinflating the price of the vehicle to begin with? $85K for a new Chevy Tahoe...no thanks.
I've warmed up to the current gen ES350. Just can't get over the humongous front overhang and no AWD for the V6. Otherwise it might have been on my shopping list for our next car.

I have always figured there is no awd V6 so Lexus forces the buyer to choose the RX.
Yeah it doesn't seem like it would be all that difficult. Acura is able to do it with the TLX V6.
They already did it with the I4. My honest guess is that the RX just costs more so it’s just more profit to Toyota if they can make.an upgrade sale. I doubt the RX costs more to build than the ES . Plus all of the all Wheel drive V6 front wheel drive big sedans all got canceled. So I don’t think it’s that big of a deal for most people
I have never really seen the TLX comparison towards an ES. They just seem like different cars for different buyers
What's your point? but seriously, lexus will continue to make a ton of money off this car. It's refined, it's reliable, it's comfortable and roomy, it's quiet and smooth, it holds its value very well.
