OK, I went to Borneo Motor's(sole Lexus agent in Singapore) sneak peek of the 2021 IS yesterday. No test drives were allowed and they banned photo taking though I did get some nice photos of a grey GSF.
Only 1 unit on display. A non F-Sport white IS300. No Mark Levinson. Memory seats with powered tilt telescoping steering wheel.18 inch wheels. Single led headlights. It had caramel interior which is my favorite color of all the options available. My impression is that the 2021 IS is slightly more spacious than the 2020 version. Non Mark Levinson sound system had impressive bass. No run-flats thank goodness and a doughnut spare in the trunk. Singapore will get IS300, IS300h and a few units of IS350 F-Sports, all RWD.
Design wise : The biggest change from the 2020 is the front end and the C pillar. As a result of the C pillar change, 2021 IS now has a sloping fastback roofline similar to the 3rd generation GS, more of a coupe-ish silhouette. I even remarked that aside from the front, the new IS is like a mini version of my 3rd Gen GS450h.
The female relative who came with me to the sneak peek has completely no interest in cars and is the last person you think of when talking about car enthusiasts. She immediately put down a deposit on a car in the first shipment coming into Singapore.
When I asked why she did that, before even test-driving the car she said : "Who cares when it looks like that." lol
We also went to the nearby Volvo dealership, she mildly liked the S60 and admired the showroom car's color. Test drove the S60 T5 R Design with the 2L turbo and the turbo lag was annoying. Plan on test driving the 330i soon and I hope BMW's 2L doesn't have as much lag as Volvo's. I will say though that the S60 is amazingly spacious for a compact car and now the size of a 3rd Gen GS. It also has impressive ride quality and irons out the bumps on the road.
Sorry but you're not very convincing. Handling and driving enjoyment are precisely the metrics that car enthusiasts would zero in on and thus completely relevant when talking about competing in a sports sedan segment.
Also you said a lot but seems to signify very little. Basically what you said = POWAHHH!!! and but but but... newer must be better!!!!!
I think discerning car enthusiasts can look beyond clichés like newer must be better and hp bragging rights.
If that is true, why isnt the LC500 selling? Its a beautiful car and sounds amazing and supposedly a great drive as well.
No memory sit option in USA for 300 or 350. Just weird.
That doesn’t make sense, they didn’t have it in my ‘16 F-Sport but added it the next year. It was the one thing that drove me crazy since my wife and I swap cars constantly. I can’t see them going backwards on that but who knows.

Is she your auntie? Brings me flash backs of them 'reversing'....
That is weird, I agree. They're missing out on free publicity.
Because it is such a beautiful and special car that they dont want the competition to copy them. It will send the Germans scrambling back to do nothing but laugh, eeeer I mean back to the drawing board!

Whew, some mental gymnastics, that!
You know there's a part of me that's like, "This is still a better IS than before." I think the IS is a strange vehicle in its segment... It doesn't attract the same buyers as some other cars. I will say, I could see myself having one in the future because a used Lexus is a good used car, relatively. However, performance and technology-wise, it's still dated. I guess having Android Auto and the new digital gauge cluster helps.

When the 3IS was first released, it was class competitive. When the 2IS was released, it was class competitive and class leading in some areas. The two generations attracted a ton of enthusiasts but then Lexus decided not to improve the car. The mid-model refresh was a complete joke and this iteration looks nice and may handle well, but the 3.5L is slow / ancient / inefficient comparatively so sales are going to suffer again. I guess it doesn't matter as most are going to get the 2L turbo (which is bottom of class) but then enthusiasts aren't going to typically buy that model. Lexus makes strange decisions.
When I sat in the white 2021 IS300 on Sunday, I felt it was more spacious then the 2020 version. Lexus Japan website confirms my first impressions : 2021 is wider, slightly taller and has longer wheelbase than its predecessor.

Not to nitpick, but I would have doubted the wheelbase changed. A quick Google search seems to confirm my suspicion, as the wheelbase is still 110.2 inches.
The wheelbase has not changed, its the same car. Length is slightly different because of different bumpers, width is slightly different because of different mirrors and fender arches.
Wheelbase is not listed in the images he chose. He's confusing wheelbase and track.
