Watching Autogefuhl. Some of the new stuff in this S class is really dumb. The buttons on the streering wheel, silly sunroof slider and the screen buttons climate touch points are fancy but not needed. The host agrees. Also showed how easy finger prints show up

Anyway, with the personalization, it seems that the MB system can also create profiles for you even when you are not the driver. Each seat as a profile and will customize the ambient lighting, massage, etc to that seat, even in the rear.
I'm not criticizing Mercedes at all. I really respect all the OEMs that copy and add the best features from other manufacturers. I actually like the new S class interior...looks way more modern and couldn't care any less if buttons went away.

Same here - that was part of the reason why I made the comments I did earlier. I like the S - class interior. I wasn't trying to put them down.

I don't know how much I like the center screen because it differs a lot from the previous generations, but I think they nailed it overall. As always it embeds class-leading tech and I'm very happy they managed to keep the unique design cues the S-Class had for the past two decades.

I guess it would be pretty boring if it was just like a classic dash from the past

LS500 still looks better inside out, it's XJ of current flagships while true XJ being really outdated by now.

Yes, I quite like it and apart from the fact that it involves looking lower than a screen at the top of the dash, it brings some freshness in the interior styling. I just would like to sit in one to build a more accurate opinion.

One thing I hated about my LS was the lack of customizable accent lighting. It had a few white LEDs here and there but nowhere near the amount of the 7, a8, s class. The LS looks extremely dull at night compared to the Germans.

Not outdated, dead as of last year.

And while the XJ was old, Jaguar extensively updated it throughout its life cycle to the point where I don't consider it very dated at all by the time of its demise. The engines, infotainment, and driver's aids were updated continuously to the latest from JLR, and the exterior and interior have aged like fine wine. The aluminum body and weight reduction is still best-in-class, as are the driving dynamics. Hell, it even had Apple Carplay and Android Auto. For a car that's the same age as the current GX, it's admirable how well-planned the XJ was to accommodate updates to its powertrain and technology.

Lexus had a real missed opportunity by not illuminating that fancy Kiriko glass for a chandelier-like effect. There would have been nothing in the segment like it.

Not a fan of how Germans do accent lighting. Too cheesy to me.

Then you can turn it off. Or set it to white, or turn it way down. Not having the option is a big negative for Lexus though.

Could it be assumed that the Germans engineered the surfaces with an oleophobic coating? They're a fairly particular bunch of engineers.

I think that coating only works if you wipe it off.....it works so well for cell phones because the phone goes in your bag or pocket which helps wipe the screen (I might be wrong)

Even Apple hasn’t designed one that works well, so I doubt it.

Most phones are in a case and covered by a glass screen protector

All the gloss black trim in my car has been covered by vinyl wrap. Easy fix and looks good. Fingerprints on the large display ls are hard to see as the light emitted from the screen usually hides it.
