Different strokes for different folks.
Yeah but is it worth the bad gas mileage just to look over people? Cybertruck in any case is an interesting truck. Doubt it will steal F150 buyers or 911 buyers (Musk compared it to both) but Tesla fans are already falling all over it and for someone who doesn’t actually use their truck for any legitimate reasons it will probably make sense.

I think you hit on something here. I’m one of those that only “needs” a truck occasionally & the rest of the time I spend commuting or running errands. This type of truck appeals to folks like me. I’m a long way from accepting this style, but I certainly see its utility & I wouldn’t rule it out. We have a mix of a sports car & an SUV, so I understand both preferences. If I could justify it, I would add a truck to the mix.

I think we will see the cyber truck’s true usefulness when ranchers & builders start putting thru their daily chores. It will either sink or swim at that point. Hopefully, if it sinks, there will be enough urban users like myself that will keep the vehicle alive while improvements can be made. I don’t want to see Tesla go away. They may not be the right vehicle for me, but I believe they serve a particular market, especially in urban areas.

I’ve concluded the cybertruck and tesla in general is at this point a ‘fashion statement’. The cybertruck is like a really clunky ugly (to regular people) and impractical pair of shoes but the fashionista go wild for...

I've laid out a million times why I like trucks, I'm done repeating it. Gas is $2.39 a gallon. Big whoop.

How high do peoples' power bills skyrocket when plugging in Teslas nightly?

Tesla drivers do realize that it's the most likely that their electricity is coming from a coal plant, right? They're still polluting the air.

The Us has switched to natural gas for the most part. Even with coal, they equate to a car that gets 50mpg. With natural gas, even higher. My electric bill went up $60 a month for about 1500 miles of driving. I also have over 500hp that i judiciously use so I've been saving about $250 a month vs my last car. Tesla's also have no maintenance costs and consumables are much less (no brake job for 100k+ miles). I'm also getting solar this month so I'll be completely carbon neutral. Of course most of my friends with Tesla's already have solar so they've seen tremendous benefits over their ownership period.

If you want to see the math behind the average emissions, I have provided a link.

Everything you say here is true.....and there is the added annoyance of kids, with nothing better to do, going around playing pranks by pulling the recharging cords out of the outlets....assuming there is no safety-locks on the hardware, and the vehicle is not inside a locked garage.

in CA it’s more like $4.00 a gallon for premium. At local Chevron it’s $4.20 so yeah gas mileage is important. Anyway off topic. I’m not a Tesla fan at all. In fact I am vehemently against Tesla. However, I must admit the Cybertruck makes sense if you’re not going to go off road or tow stuff or go to work.

Coal as a fuel for electricity generation is dying out and the mines are shutting. Some months electricity from renewables exceeds that from coal plants.

you forgot to mention that the motor has been tested to last over a million miles.

My electric bill has gone up about the same $60 a month too but I have solar so that definitely helps. But I’m paying at least $200+ per month to gas up my v8

you can buy an entire set of brake pads for $100 and change it in 1.5 hours. Sure no oil changes? Thats $40-50 every 9 months. Buying an electric car to justify saving money on maintenance doesnt seem very compelling. Sure in certain states where gas/electricaity is stupidly expensive. except here when gas is $2.15 regular and 9.5c a kWh

My buddies with luxury cars spend way more than what you indicate. A brake job is at least $150 in materials and rotors get pretty pricey for performance cars. How about tranny flushes, coolant changes, differential changes, spark plugs, and everything related to combustion engines is far more than EV. The average annual maintenance cost of a BMW is ~$1000. My Lexus was the same at the dealership but I realize you can do with 3rd party but still costs way more than an EV that has none of these requirements. Saving on maintenance is only a portion of why EVs are compelling. For $55k, you get something that gets 0-60 in 3 seconds and has no maintenance costs. Compare that to a M3 which have extremely high maintenance requirements. For $55k though, you get a fully loaded 330 or a mid trim M340. I'm not even going to mention the cost to fuel the car because even the cheapest gas prices can't compare to an EV. If you don't need it for long distance traveling, the EVs are far better urban cars.

So wait, we're now saying Teslas are infallible? That you won't spend a penny beyond the initial purchase?

You spend on electricity and tires. No maintenance schedule. Battery coolant is the life of the battery and the brake fluid should be inspected after a couple years in harsh climates. If you don't believe me look up the model 3 maintenance schedule. It's on the web.
