Default Future of Android auto... Interview with Google

Excellent insight and interview... Interesting that Volvo and Audi among others are all in on Android in the car (not relying on the phone).

On the fence about this. Google sells a lot of your data, I am not a big fan of that. Now they have access to your car, where you go etc etc. The potential for abuse becomes possible

If you have an android phone or use google apps on an iphone, one could argue they have access to almost all of that anyway.

Agreed. However, nobody forces you to use Android Auto or Apple Car Play. Toyota Entune tracks you as well. But if you buy a Volvo, being forced to be tracked is of concern. Is there an opt out?

the future of cars in all aspects is AI.
AI for safety.
AI for entertainment.
AI for self-driving.
AI for integration.
AI for interface ('hey car, put an appointment with smith on my calendar for 2 and remind me at 1:30, then show me the best way to get there')

data privacy will be regulated at some point, but opting out will become pointless or impossible except for the tin foil hat types.
besides, the govt wants that data too.

I assume if you let the data service trial time out (or never activate it in the first place), that there's no way to call home. All these connected car systems have subscriptions associated with them.

Toyota said the new Avalon is always connected, I believe this is for all of their new offerings. Yes, you could let your subscription expire, but that does not mean Toyota severs the connection to your car. They could still keep your connection while blocking you out. <<<Just my assumption. I doubt Google will ever sever it's link to any android embedded vehcile.
