That would be a great place to store a smartphone while in the car. If they could put a USB port and/or Qi charging pad there to charge the phone, that would be ideal.

Nice place to put something like your phone, then the thing breaks. I think I have seen this type of storage on another GM product before.

Yeah I seem to remember various jokes about the myriad things you could fit behind the 2014 Impala's screen.

Not bad. But as time goes on, thieves will get ahold of this feature and know where to look. Once shut down, I wouldn't leave anything of value in a car at any time.

Back in the day, this usually meant you were missing some option that would normally live in that space like a nav, multi-disk changer (way back in the day), or some type of adaptive cruise control. It's nice when manufacturers give you that space to use since you don't have said option. My M3 has an extra hidden cubby for my sunglasses because it didn't come with the adaptive cruise control.

IMO the latest Traverse is anything BUT a bread-and-butter vehicle. Top-level versions, especially, can get quite pricey. High Country models, for example, start at 53K....that's basically Chevy's version of Buick's Enclave Avenir.

That little pocket is a nice idea for convenience, but I just wonder what flipping that thing up and down every day (if applicable), over a period of time, will do to the sensors on the video screen, especially hitting them against its stops. GM does a lot of things right these days, but high-quality electronic sensors is not always one of them.

I wonder how many people actually get the 53k High Country. That is Buick Avenir territory

Yes, like I mentioned in my post, the High Country is essentially Chevy's version of the Avenir. There is only about $1000 difference between the two of them, though I think the Buick would be worth the small extra price just for the longer warranty. Buick gives you the same 6/70 and 4/50 warranty that Cadillac, Lexus, Lincoln, Acura, and Infiniti do....Chevy doesn't.

I agree about not leaving anything of value in the car when you leave the car... But there is also the philosophy of "out of sight, out of mind" -- most thieves steal from convenience, so if they glance and see something worth stealing, they will steal, but if they see nothing, they will not steal. This leads to the advice that if you must leave something in the car, lock it away, out of sight, in the trunk (or in the glove box or some other covered cubby hole).
