So I’ve read that you can get texts read out to you when your phones connected to the Bluetooth but for the life of me I can’t figure out how to do it. Do you need the enform subscription or something?

Im going to assume you have an iPhone since android that I know of just automatically does it. Go to setting--->Bluetooth---> Click on the "i" symbol next to the Lexus Device---> turn on "Show Notifications" Should be the same step for any phone though.

wow I feel like an idiot lol I’ve been looking thought every menu in the car and couldn’t figure it out cause it was on my phone the whole time. Thanks a lot
I wish that worked with mine: iPhone 5S, 2014 ES350 with Navigation. Cannot get "Messages" to show up on the setup/phone screen. "Messages" is greyed out on the screen where I'd go to read the message. Incoming message announcement on the phone DOES play through the Nav system....just no message. "Show Notifications" is ON on the Bluetooth screen for the phone. Nav screen audio is set for "Bluetooth" and playing music from the phone. Incoming and outgoing audio calls are possible.

Do you have the phone connected as a "Media Device" or as a phone? It sounds like the audio is working but not the messaging. I guess the easy way to answer this question would be to see whether calling through the car works (i.e., using Voice Commands and saying "Call John Smith" or whoever).
Yes, audio calling works fine. The issue seems to be that "Messaging" does not show up in the "setup/phone" screen so I can't get into the Messaging options at all. I've got a phone call in to a Lexus dealer, waiting for a call-back (the nearest dealer is about 140 miles away). The phone is connected as a phone c/w directory and audio call history display.

Are you in the car menu or the iPhone menu?
In reference to the post up above, I believe he was referring to the iPhone menu...not the vehicle.
Of course I'm an Android user, so I could be wrong.

Turn off the bluetooth in iPhone completely and turn it back on I've had this happened to me. If this doesn't work go to Bluetooth setting in iOS select the Lexus car name under My Devices and click "i" then select Forget This Device then repair bluetooth again.
Good thought; I will remember that if it craters on me. I was on the cordless landline this afternoon with the “tech guru” at the dealership where I bought the car. I had my iPhone bluetoothed to the car with music running. I was stepping through my procedure to “show” the tech what I had done and all of a sudden the “Message” button was no longer greyed out on the answering screen. I grabbed my wife’s iPhone and sent myself a text; it announced arrival through the Nav system and when I hit the “Answer” button on the steering wheel the test message showed up on the display and then the “text to voice” read the message out! Checked the setup screen and “Message” setup is now showing. Went into that and all the message options as per the manual are available. Did the system feel threatened by my calling the techie? Who knows but I’m a happy camper now.
Wonder if anyone can help me with a similar issue.
Android, Galaxy S8+, non-nav 2016 is350,
My phone connects fine for Bluetooth, and when I received a text, I get the HUD notification through the car. I have the option to Read Message or Ignore. When I select Read Message, it takes 30+ seconds for it to begin reading the message. Most of the time, it doesn't read the most recent unread message. Rather, some random older message from earlier in the day/week, often from a different person.
I remember when the car was newer, it would always read the correct (new) message. It was not speedy, but began reading after 5-10 seconds. Not only has it slowed down, but also the incorrect message thing.
While both Apple and Android phones display phone call history on the screen, Apple phones only display
text messages and not e-mails. Android phones try to pass through the entire history of texts and e-mails
to be displayed and sorted through. If you have lots of messages it can take awhile to jam through a bluetooth
connection. Things used to be worse, the bottleneck used to lock up the entire connection and you could not
even make or take a call.
Try completely deleting the car and phone pairing and when repairing them answer the pop up dialog box
regarding the transfer of messages with "No". You should get quicker response times but not the ability
to sort though older messages.

I'll give this a try, thank you. I had wondered if having too many messages was the culprit (I have about 6 years worth on my phone). I didn't realize I could repair and decline the message transfer.
