Default Buying a Lexus through CARMAX

I'm in the market for an LS or GS and have found a 2013 LS460L for sale through CARMAX that I'm interested in. I always try to avoid dealers and buy private party, but I want a warranty on my next car and have heard the CARMAX warranty is pretty good for aftermarket. The price on this LS is right where I want to be (obviously w/o the warranty). This particular LS doesn't have air suspension, which makes me wonder if the warranty will really be needed. Anyway, is anyone familiar with CARMAX and their warranty? Anything I should watch out for with CARMAX?

Isn't the Carmax warranty pretty short, like a couple months? Not really worth it to me considering Carmax prices their cars a couple thousand higher then they should be and they don't deal. If the LS does not have air suspension and especially if it is RWD I would save your money and not get a warranty, just get it checked by a Lexus/Toyota dealer or good mechanic.

You can buy an aftermarket warranty from Carmax, even on a vehicle that is 6-7 years old. Google Doug DeMuro and his carfax warranty on his Range Rover. It has paid for itself like 6 times over on that trouble prone pos.

As for Carmax, I've found their prices for the most part to be over market value. You will pay too much in most cases buying a car from them IMO. Do your research, your Lexus dealer might have better prices once you haggle a bit.

Carmax is overpriced. Anytime they take away negotiations, you lose and they win. Best of luck.

I'll buck the trend here. Two years ago i was shopping for an RX450h. The dealers wouldn't budge much on used prices, but carmax hit the sweet spot. They were AMAZING to work with! I really enjoyed the process and they gave me the best quote on my IS250 to buy than any dealer did. Carmax warranty is pretty damn good form what i hear and read as well. Check out the below video for proof.

My neighbor bought an M3 from carmax a few years ago and he says the process was seamless and he would absolutely buy another from carmax. His m3 is in great condition.

Always compare them with local dealers - do your homework and due diligence.

Yes. Have 1st hand experience with this, plus mislabeling cars. For example I was looking to buy a G37 RWD Sport and they had the non-sport package labeled as sport on their website and the car salesman told me it was the sport model.

I wouldn't automatically avoid it, I just wouldn't assume its a quality car because its at Carmax. Do all the normal independent due diligence that you would otherwise.
