Not accurate - MKIV when it debuted in early 90s was one of the fastest cars you can buy and definitely faster than all of its direct competition. The 320hp rating was BS as it made more than that at the wheels stock.
I had a 93 TT and a 97 TT, and well aware what it could do stock. Back then it was still in the same performance realm as the 300z, RX7, and vR4 (I know, I cross shopped them all). And I dynod my Supra as well and made around 280whp stock (375 when BPU).
But you're missing the point, it's not the stock number most owners care about. It's it's tunability and penchant for easy hp. If you can do simple FBO and get 100hp like before and not sacrifice any reliability , then it's going to gain a mass following easily (and lots of MKIV converts in the process).

I had a 94 SupraTT and a 93 300ZXTT. I cross shopped all these cars as well. You stated above that in stock form the performance was just ok when in fact it was better than ok, it was near the top with the exception of some exotics. Yes the draw to the car was the tunability but the stock platform was already a good starting point. Let’s say this new Supra is able to be tuned and get an easy 100hp, it will still not be close to its old competitors. It is now not in the tier it used to be which is fine for some but not to me since I wanted more. I would have been fine with a niche vehicle costing $80k+ if it was like the MKIV.

Agreed - if you read the Tada interviews he seems to know this.
I think this engine will be highly tuneable. I’m sure with a simple flash tune you can pick up 100hp.
For my M3 there are endless amounts of tuning available.
Still can't get over that nose bump. Looks dumb, like it's trying to mimic an F1-nose. They are not involved in F1 so why even have it? I bet the BMW looks better but the Supra has the better performance. Not feeling this 'Supra'. They should call it something else and save the Supra name for something more appropriate that looks closer to a Toyota version of the Lexus LC, not a squished and slightly wider GT86.
“Road & Track web editor Chris Perkins had the chance to speak with Supra chief engineer Testsuya Tada at the Goodwood Festival of Speed a few days ago, and the Toyota employee confirmed that there will indeed be a four-cylinder Supra. Tada also elaborated, saying the four-cylinder Supra will be lighter, with “much better weight distribution” and a sharper-feeling turn-in. Tada also remarked that, for the Supra owners who plan to swap in a 2JZ engine, “please buy the four-cylinder. It will be cheaper.”
The lower-powered version uses the BMW B48B20 turbocharged four-cylinder engine displacing two liters and producing 262 horsepower, while the high-power version will use the single-turbo inline-six B58B30 BMW engine and will produce 335 horsepower, according to the document.

I suggest you follow the Supra forums - much more updated info there.
Doubt the 4cyl will be coming to US market even.
Supraforums isn't for everyone they we are a rowdy bunch and you need thick skin the forums there isn't as regulated and nice as it is here. The MKV forums will be nicer with more updated information than Supraforums.
