Quote: Your V6 1GR-FE or V8 2UZ-FE in your 4Runner are both aluminum block engines. The inline six 1FZ-FE in your LX450 is a cast iron block. @jill
Thanks......I think the 2UZ engine is iron block????? I always though it was, the 4.7 dates back to 1998. The 1FZ is iron you are right. Thanks

Quote: You're one of our resident BMW guys. What do you think? Do you believe the new Supra will be had in only BMW 4 and 6 cylinder engines? That a new Iron Block is on it's way? Maybe to be an option or replace the BMW 6 in the future? Curious what your take is on these rumors.
I thought it would use BMW engines.

The iron block rumors picked up steam recently due to insider info from ppl that are close to Tada, the chief engineer.

Obviously i rather the Supra have unique setup rather than just use the B58 BMW engine.
I think the iron block version might be the top range and the B58 standard engine.

I don’t think the 4cyl is coming to US market.

Quote: BTW it's interesting how little faith Lexus/Toyota seems to have in their 8AR engine. They already have a 4-turbo and yet they're just sourcing from BMW. both Turbo 4 engines are supposed to directly compete and are both current.
Lol, the 8AR sucks, can't be hacked, turbo lag galore, poor MPG if driven more than an old lady would. At least, the BMW motor has great potential to extract additional power. As a former BMW fanatic, I still can't say I'm happy about them not using a Toyota motor. This car does not deserve to be called the Supra.

This debut has become more drawn out than the nsx at this point. Setting up for a total disappointment

When you're right, you're right. What's it been now, 5-6 years?

Iron block? I'll be quite shocked if this turns out to be true.

Two great brands but it seems people are often bmw fans or toyota fans. Will potential buyers feel like traitors?

This "Toyota Supra" is more a BMW than it is a Toyota. Its pretty much a BMW Z5 reskin with a Toyota Supra badge.

I wonder how will this sell considering there's nothing Toyota about it. I honestly feel like its insulting the Supra name.

My friend it’s getting an iron block inline 6 - thats as Supra as you can get!

The car will weigh 3100 lbs and has some meaty tires.....255 front and 275 rears. It’s supposedly has CF roof and other CF components. This thing is SMALLER than FRS/BRZ!

Interior looks nice and has Idrive

Priced at $65k for 2seater will be tough.
It needs to be make great power and have tune potential to get a following.

6cyl will be $65k

check Supra forums for insider info on the iron block, its coming from several reputable sources there.....we shall see i guess
What are the links?

I don't think if it has a cast iron block that it is going to weigh 3100lbs unless they are using a lot of aluminum and carbon fiber and it sounds hard to believe it will have its own unique iron block while BMW is aluminum.

All these years and rumors are it will only have 20 more hp then the 1998 Supra, likely very disappointing.

At least with Acura the power and performance of the new NSX was on a whole other level then the last NSX and it is beautiful.
