I do think we can say Nissan did make the big V-6 popular and others followed with their own 3.5s or had to go with forced induction to compete. Early on it was an award winner and even today has stayed relevant.

MPLexus, ironically the classic VQ note is completely gone from the Q50, it sounds very quiet and even revving the engine it sounds weedy and normal. They did seem to fix the harshness though, its not nearly as buzzy as in the G35/G37.

Well Blueprint is busy modding the heck out of his IS350 but is preparing to trade in his Q50. His actions pretty much speaks for themselves.

Also the VQ has no exhaust "bark". There is a BIG reason why the VQ is nicknamed the "VaaQuum" because the exhaust note is close to that of a vacuum cleaner.

Also the optional ML 15 speaker system on the IS destroys the Q50's overrated Bose system.

Last but not least, yes, the Q50 definitely does look bloated just like the G37 and M, especially in person.

What are you smoking? The G35 has one of the best stock exhaust note ever. It's more of a deep growl than a vacuum. The VQ has also won Wards 10 Best Engines for several years.

I've listened to the ML and The Bose. The Bose has better base. ML sounds okay if you're listening to Classical music.

Now it's harder to listen to the IS350 note since it's an automatic. But from what I can here, it's more of a whine from inside the car.

Well, it depends on what you want from the car. A classy ride that you leave stock or a tuner with blue leds, a lip on the roof and a lip on the trunk, fiberglass body kits and bouncy springs.

VBX, you really need to just get a q50 and jump over to their forums. No use in you hating on 350 fsport and staying here. You sound like a broken record. When are you trading in?

1) Pretty sure Blueprint mentioned he took the Q50 aftermarket as well; and
2) there is absolutely no reason to hate on the aftermarket scene on this forum, whether you're a fan of it or not.

The VQ, specifically in the G35/G37, has a terrible exhaust note, but everyone's got their own opinion.

Then I guess Infiniti cars are the right ones for you.

BOSE and "great audio" does not belong in the same sentence. Any person semi-serious about accurate and full range sound production knows that BOSE speakers are terrible and accentuates certain midranges to sound impressive to the uneducated ear.

And you don't even have to be an audiophile/sound snob to know that.

There is absolutely no comparison between the ML on Lexus and Bose audio. Not saying that ML is the end-all for car audio but at least ML is respectable. You would be laughed out of town if anyone were to suggest that BOSE speakers ( Home/Car) were any good on any audio forums.

The IS350 doesn't really have an exhaust note. All you can hear at WOT is engine noise. Smooth sewing machine noise which is an indication of a healthy engine.

Bose? Seriously. They make terrible sound. Yeah the Q50 may produce more base, but the ML produce incredible clarity and do not suffer from distortion like all the others.

I'm with him on the exhaust note. IMO the VQ is one of the best sounding V6s out there. I'll admit I was a little disappointed at the exhaust note (or lack thereof) from the Lex V6 but JoeZ took care of that.
The only close fight between the two cars is the infotainment system. Other than that, there's no comparison. The 3IS wallops the Q50.

I like the exhaust note as well --- altho I've never heard one at high revs.
