F Series, F-Sport....Why the colors?
Does anyone know why Lexus chose Blue and Black for the F theme? What does it represent? I am curious because at the same time, their hybrid models have the Blue and Black emblem on the front and rear.....
someone told me that in Japan, blue and black represent class and power.....I think its BS, but if someone can tell me, it would greatly be appreciated.
thanks

I'm not sure if you read the entire first post but I am asking because of what someone told me and I don't like to misinform others if and when they ask. Because I have been asked what F stands for and why colors black and blue. Plus, I would like to know for my own knowledge and to see if it's going to go with the theme of my vehicle.

The "F" is for Fuji Speedway, paying homage to the course that ultimately borne the IS F, the LFA, and later on the F sport line. I like it being black and blue, both classy and seductive colors. The combination of black and blue in the emblems show a sporty luxurious side. If they had been red, I thought maybe it would've taken away from the luxury aspect, similar to that of the Type R or S in some Toyota or Acura models respectively or the Si of the Civic. Red to me, though a great color for a car, has never been synonomous with anything but racing or sport. Lexus, I would presume, wanted to relay a message of class and sport, thus choosing less flashy colors IMO.

I actually wasn't aware of this. I suppose that is the color of their national soccer team...

After glancing at this thread last night I looked up some stuff on Google regarding Japanese cultural perspectives on color.
Blue has a lot to do with purity, stability, fidelity--has ties to the vast oceans that surround the island nation.
Black has many meanings, including: night, death, sorrow, fear, mystery, solemnity, evil, etc. etc. you get the gist. I recall in a global program that Jeremy Clarkson did a long time ago, the Yakuza opted to have blacked out cars representing the general aura of their "business".
If you combine those two together--I think it's possible to grasp the general gist of what Lexus was going for with their "F" marque.
