Default Blue onyx not blue?

Ive been trying to find a black onyx 250 rwd in Seattle, WA for some time now and have had no luck. This is my first luxury car and I have always been in love with black. For one reason.. It looks very formal

I was looking at Kailua250 car lovely car here

Is it just me or does the blue onyx not look blue? In fact I think this color looks more like black than the SGM. Is it just the lighting in the picture or is it not meant to be a real blue?

OMG, you have discovered Lexus' secret! Misleading innocent customers with this confusing color naming scheme.

Seriously, calm down...it is okay...Now, it is a very dark blue that "goes black" in low light situations. Here are a couple of lousy pictures from Car and Driver magazines web site that show Blue Onyx.

If you were to see a black onyx and blue onyx in full sunlight at midday then the difference would be plain and obvious.

It is a very dark blue, almost black. Though it does not say it is a "pearl" color, it has those characteristics. Depending on the way the ligh hits it, it changes color to a lighter blue, almost like purple.
Here are some pics:

Here is another pic, the sun was setting in this one and it was not hitting the car directly, as you can see it looks a whole of a lot darker.

here's a link to my thread with a couple pics of my blue onyx. It definitely looks black if there is not much light around. When the light hits it, you can see that it is a very dark and classy blue. Great color.

Yes it's very very dark. I thought it was suppose to be much lighter, but it's not. I seem to remember seeing a blue IS somewhere and it was a solid blue, kinda like how matador red is a solid red. But maybe it was a GS or something..

I have pics of my Blue Onyx in the gallery and I took some more pics today.. (Just got it tinted).. I'll upload them later when I get a chance. For now, just look at the gallery and go to the IS250/350 section.. mine are in the there somewhere.

Welcome to CL. I see this is your first post.

As you can see, the sun angle hitting on a dark color can make an enormous difference. This particular color can look almost black on a cloudy day, or a medium-to-dark blue in direct sunlight.
I had a Saturn years ago the same way......a color called Black Cherry. It was virtually black in low-light conditions but a gorgeous red-purple in sunlight.

Yeah, it is sweet!!! It was my first choice, but after seeing the matador red in person, I had a change of heart.
My wife still insists I should get the blue onyx.

I have the blue onyx with black interior....after seeing pictures I knew I liked the blue, but once I saw it at the dealership I fell in love instantly.....in my opinion, when the sun hits the car directly it shows its true blue side. I have heard people say that they think the blue has a purplish hue to it in sunlight, what do you guys think? I can see what they are talking about in a way, but no way would I classify the car as an puprle- please someone agree with me! I will post pics of my blue when I get back home in CO where my car is next weekend...
