Default Is Lexus comming out with a smaller RX?

Hi all,

I'm in the market for a small luxury SUV/CUV for my wife. We are test driving the Audi Q5, Volvo XC60, BMW X3, Acura RDX, and even the RAV4 (fully loaded 3.5L V6). We live in SF, and the RX350 is just too big for my wife. Is Lexus planning to come out with a compact SUV? Possibly something based on the RAV4 platform or a shrunk down RX?

Thanks!

RX is the smallest one, compared to its brothers GX and LX. I doubt we'll see a smaller one. The current model is selling well, Lexus wont probably mess with that for now

A smaller RX will most likely take away sales from the RX itself. But it is something that Lexus needs to provide to compete with other automakers.

Rumor is that future RX will have an optional long-wheel-base version to accommodate a third row. The RX is gonna get bigger, so I see a smaller SUV model in the future.

OP mentioned small luxury SUV.

Although it does have it's advantages, Kia Sportage doesn't fit the bill.

i am just curious, the q5 and x3 (or suv in that segment), they are considerably bigger than the rx? i thought the rx is closer to them than say the x5 and q7

it's a small suv, it competes directly with the honda crv.....now luxury would be in the eye of the beholder.

a well equipped sportage is pretty luxury! it's a very hot looking small suv no joke!

I don't think Lexus needs a Rav-4(ish) SUV. I'd rather just seem them put out a nice hatchabck or something or that sort.

I would love to see a smaller than RX Lexus SUV. I would consider that as a next vehicle.

The X3/GLK/Q5 fit more in the 'cute ute', small luxury crossover category, the RX/SRX etc. in the midsize luxury crossover category, and Q5, X5 etc. between mid and large (3rd row). That being said, there is some overlap.

Cargo volumes, cu. ft. trunk space:
GLK 23.3
Q5 29.0
SRX 29.2
X3 30.0
XC60 30.8
RX 38.8 (84.7 folded)
Q7 (72.5 folded)
X5 (75 folded)

Note: Lexus.com gives RX 40 (80) numbers.

mom's been wanting an SUV for her daily commute. we looked at both the x3, Q5, MDX, and RX, and though she is certain on the RX, she did mention that it was a bit large for her. it'd be nice if there was a smaller version of the RX, but as SNiiP3R and Phil said earlier, it would take away sales from what is already a great selling product.
