2011 Toyota Avalon
JZS - GS300, Aristo, Athlete, Royal
UZS - GS400, GS430, Majesta, Royal
GRS - GS300, GS350, Athlete, Royal
URS - GS460, Majesta
GWS - GS450h, Athlete Hybrid
The Avalon has no relation to these cars other than the shared GR block (2GR-FE 3.5L V6) and previously the MZ series block (1MZ, 3MZ).
Avalon is and still is a stretched/modified Camry chassis.

I wonder if there are plans to keep the Avalon in the lineup? I'm sure the dealers and consumers would like to see a better update.
In Jan only 944 (not good) were sold vs. 2,923 ES350's, for example. No doubt a lot of cross shopping between the two.

Sadly, I'd say that the Japanese Toyota Crown (Athlete, Royal Saloon, Majesta and Hybrid version) are still better than this Avalon shown here IMHO.
Personally, I believe they got it right with the 10-spoke wheels, interior, LED lights and stuff............but the rest of the car is just ultra-boring.
I'm bored to death by seeing this car for more than a second

Aint that the truth, I did ride in one eh two, the last two generations and even though the thing bores to ones death its actually a nice comfy ride. The current one has a nice roomy and snuggly cabin and its not offensive at all, for what it is it does..Again I personally would strongly recommend this car to my price conscious seniors over anything american, even with the recall frenzy.

Not sure why we are complaining about a car that succeeds at its intended market. This is not an enthusiast car in regards to sport and we all know that. Toyota was smart over a decade ago to offer it and the car has done well for them. Only today has the competition caught up/passed it.

It also shows what both you and I have pointed out before....the strong tilt of the auto press and general Internet auto chat towards sport-orientation.
That's mostly because of the lightening/cheapening of the car's interior and trim materials over the years. Otherwise, it is still as good as just about anything else in its class.......Buick Lucerne, Kia Amanti, Hyundai Azera, Lexus ES350, etc....

Remember, when Toyota introduced the 2005 Avalon, it introduced Toyota to such things as dual VVTi, xenon lamps, heated/cooling seats, and I believe dual HVAC up front. This redesign or refresh is terrible.
Some are complaining because for years Toyota has been known to a full redesign on their vehicles. This seemed part way, while I do like the styling, the interior is a carryover with a slight change to the design of the vehicle.

I don't mind the Avalon update at all. I'd like to see it in person before I can fully qualify a statement from just pictures.
Times are changing and models will be extended past their traditional 5 year model cycle as we used to know. Don't be surprised to see other manufacturers do this too. It's an ongoing trend with all.

Toyota was well know for not going the General Motors/Ford route and this is a perfect example of it. It would be completely different if Toyota admitted that it was simply a refresh.
