2011 Toyota Avalon
True.
My parents have an '08 Avalon, and I've ridden in the back for trips to Vegas and San Francisco.
My perspective:
Lots of people here are missing the point.
The Avalon coddles a type of consumer that will rarely join ClubLexus. The Avalon provides a plush ride, confident with speed, cautious (read grannied) with handling, and easy to use.
I can understand why the redesign is understated: the consumer market that will buy the Avalon HATE dramatic styling and changes. They want to progress from vanilla pudding to tapioca pudding.
The Navigation system is a HUGE improvement from the toggle Super-Nintendo-style cross that was the most annoying to use.

I don't disagree with this but Avalon sales have been in a steady slide while newer fresher, competitors have been gaining. I think the market is evolving beyond a lot of the points raised above. And I still contend that the car is redundant in the Toyota/Lexus food chain.
It's a nice car but why can't Toyota make it look nice. It's never been an attractive car but the last 2 are way worse than the first couple of generations.
Get it together Toyota!

Interior seems much improved - pretty much seems like ultimate Toyota in there, exterior is conservative as it aims for conservative buyers.
This is a lux car for people who want to go low key. Kind of like drivers in Europe who drive Avensis, they want a great car but without getting into everyones sight.
But those tailights are better than anything Lexus offers right now sans LS

What an absolute shameful disaster on Toyota's part.
This is a 1/2 %$# redesign....this seriously can't be the Avalon they will produce for the next 6 years can it? They could of move premium cars forward but instead they moved in back....And what is up with the General Motors style center stack, it looks like it came out of a Lucerne.
Where the 2005 introduced the Toyota/Lexus world to interesting things like Dual VVTi, cooling seats in a Toyota, Xenon lamps in a Toyota, push button start/doors etc....this Avalon could of done something....perhaps a Lexus ES like navigation where the HVAC and radio or combined, perhaps power telescoping steering wheel (hell the TUNDRA has this feature), perhaps pre-collision (the PRIUS has this)
Perhaps, just perhaps maybe moving to RWD?
Something, something, something
Oh, it has projector beams
This is a half $%@ redesign....
Shameful

While I can understand a understated redesign, I cannot accept a covered up attempt at fooling people into what appears to be a refresh
