New Lexus GX SUV Due This Fall
Come on you guys, Lexus know what you guys want better than you, you do not need HID in the GX and the LX
This is another case of Lexus trying to pay big brother in safety. They try to set an example, but no one else is following. The thing that seem stupid to me is that the RX has HIDs while the LX and the GX does not, and they are suppose to be higher end models. If Lexus really case about not blinding other drivers, they could have made the head lights lower, at the same level as the RX, in their newly design LX and GX.

Where are the choices??? This new GX seems to be no different than its 4Runner cousin rocking the halogens.
The RX is a crossover but the GX and LX are the "true" BOF SUVs so they ride higher than the RX. Due to that reason it'll be hard to place the headlights on the same height level as the RX.

If you look at the low beam on the last gen GX, it is position higher than the high beam. All they had to do was to switch them around and they can lower the low beam by like 5 inches. If the GX was going to be re-design, they can also lower the front bumper or make it narrow to position the low beam lower. Lets face it, Lexus had no intention of putting HIDs in their $60000+ SUV, which is a big mistake in my opinion.
I don't know... The interior between the GX and 4Runner is like night and day. Sure they are both on the same platform but no one with a good pair of eyes is going to mistaken a GX to a 4Runner.

Whats next? Not equipping the car with a sunroof because someone may be decapitated by sticking their head out?
actually i read about this in an article before. indeed lexus confirmed that GX and RX does not have hid because of the height. RX is right at the limit already where they consider safe to have hid without glaring at vehicles in the front. with the height of GX and LX (quite a bit higher than RX obviously), even with projective hid, they can't get the lights to illuminate good amount of road without glaring cars in front, especially when it's in traffic.
while i also agree this sux, but i can see their point. so many times freaking x5 or q7 or range rover get behind me and i literally want to change lane to avoid them

and the taillight i was referring to the current GX, it's sideway. so i hope next generation they will make it like the RX/LX
Call me a Lexus fanboy all you want but what's wrong with giving the customers an option to choose whether or not they want the HID?
Maybe Lexus has legit reasons for not offering HID as standard option on their SUVs or maybe not. I don't know. But based on their track record I incline to give them the benefit of the doubt.
Seriously guys, you need a reality check if you think not having the HID standard on the $60000+ SUVs is a way to cut cost. The HID option in the IS costs $700 and I am sure for those people buying the GX/LX they probably won't even know if the $700 is buried in there somewhere. Also, I wonder how many of the LX570 actually left the factory without the HID. Like the IS, sure it doesn't have the HID for standard option but good luck on finding one without it.

Luxury at its best.. The Lexus way.. The buyer has no choice in the matter. We make them you take them. Maybe I want HID's.. Maybe I want a cloth/pleather seating surfaces because I want to save the cows

If you think the 4runner/GX are not different, you haven't been close enough to smell the difference. LOL. at some of you giving Lexus the benefit of the doubt on this.. Jeezussss.. This is supposed to be a luxury vehicle right? Make HID's available for those that want it.

Bishing on not having HIDs huh. How about when we DIDN'T get a manual M5, just SMG? Americans had to bish for that. Then if you GET the manual, you CANNOT disable traction control.
Every brand has silly sins. Shall I mention more? The A5/S5 has a simply ridiculous moonroof. You cannot open, close it. I find it to be nearly a dealbreaker.

So its everyone, not just Lexus.
I have to be honest...
I really don't care about ride height or other drivers...I want HIDs. My GS is the first car I ever had with them and they provide FAR superior illumination at night to standard bulbs. I will never go back.
It would bother me to think I just dished out $60K for a GX or $90K for an LX and then had to pay for a dinky $100 HID kit just to make things right. We are into the 2010 model year and Lexus thinks that they aren't going to include HID because it's "courteous"? What's next, cars will come from the factory with pillows fastened to the front so that we can be "courteous" to other drivers and pedestrians in case of an accident?
Who is paying for the car...the driver, or every other person that we might pass at night?
Give me a break!
