FUEL ECONOMY (C/D EST.):
EPA city/highway driving: 17/24 mpg/15/22 mpg
those numbers are pretty pathetic, well I guess MB will enjoy paying another record CAFE fine, hopefully Cali fines them too.

those numbers are downright pathetic. Toyota Camry power from a 3.5 liter V6 with fuel economy that can't even keep up with the RX SUV.

Lexus should put the 300 horsepower RX hybrid drivetrain into the next GS and blow the E350 and the E-bluetec diesel out of the water with 35mpg

Gizmos will only get them so far. The days of the E-class being the highest volume sedan in the US lineup are over.

I just realized the LS 460 went on sale in Oct 2006, that means the refresher is due out in October, I didn't realize the LS has already been around for almost 4 years now. That's good news, the E-class and refreshed LS launch around the same time the US.

4 years?
it's only been a little over 2.

refresh = slightly different front bumper, plus blinkers on the mirrors
no new tech inside

How so? The LS 460 has been on sale for 3.5 years now, it just doesn't seem that long.

I'd actually say the 2004 LS 430 was a massive improvement over the previous model. I'm expecting at least Remote Touch and automatic bi-xenons, maybe but very unlikely Valvetronic. Hopefully HUD, Night View, and front wide angle camera as well.

okay why is Mercedes referring to their system as Lane Keeping Assist, that's what Toyota calls their system? And unlike Toyota's system it does not apply any corrective force to the steering its just a simple lane warning system.

The new E-class has more features = more things to go wrong sooner or later

The new E-class has more features = heavier weight

The new E-class has more features = charge you more money

The new E-class has more features = meaningless to me

There are too many E-class cars on the road. Much like a BMW 3, there is very little that is truly special about that car in traffic and you can't stand out unless you have the AMG version. It is to the luxury car world what the F-150 is to the truck world.

I had a funny thing happen to me a few months ago. I got into my car, shut the door, tried to raise the window - There was a loud snap and there went the regulator. It cost $300, yet that doesn't mean I want to go back to the days of manual windows, "because it's more reliable". This type of mentality, in my opinion, leads nowhere, hampers innovation and scorns countless opportunities for advancement.

Yes, you could have said the same thing about power windows years ago. You could have said the same thing about ESP, about electronic drive control systems, about, gasp, airbags - yet look where those "feature" have ended up in recent years - on virtually all cars. Nobody questions features like those based on "reliability".

Somebody has to start somewhere, and Mercedes-Benz isn't exactly the type of company that sits behind and waits for others to do things. They are, after all, Mercedes-Benz, the de-facto engineer of the automobile.

And that is a bad thing for MB?
