I was just loaned a LS460 while our LS430 was having some service. I thought it was an ES until I got home and walked around the back. It thought it was a nice ES, but confusing the entry car for the flagship should not happen.
I am surprised.
I can understand if you get confused the way LS looks with that of an ES. I just don't see how you can get confused LS and ES after driving the car for a while. LS drives nothing like the ES. Beginning from the moment you open the door, you can tell you are in the better car. And Lexus dealers are loaning out LS?
I have an '05 LS430 Custom Luxury, and I have driven an LS460L. To me, they drive about the same, except for the additional power of the 460. I think the 430 has quite a few advantages over the 460, and I didn't like the 460 so much that I was tempted to trade for one. (One factor was the ridiculous low trade-in value offerred for the 430.) I think a used late model 430 is a tremendous bargain.
What a way to bring up an old thread. Just compare the interiors of the LS430 and 460 and the 430 wins hands down. Just look at the seats and the controls on the seats, the 430 just looks richer and more elegant. Looking at the leather, there seems to be more pieces of leather stitched together on the 430. Also the door panels are a little more complex on the 430...
My thoughts on the 460 are not a knock on it. I just think the 430 is a bit better.

I have always mistaked the ES for the LS only in the Lexus dealer lots. On the road both are easily distinguished from one another.

Lexus has done a very good job of making everything look similar. Its not a bad thing, its just branding.

I drive the LS430(celsior) everyday and when I drive the 600(usually on weekednds or long trips) it is just so much better in every way. My 430 has the ultimate interior package (I don't know what it is called in the US) and so does the 600, but the 600 is by far the most confortable.
Only an idiot could confuse a current ES with a current LS.
if you confuse the ES with the LS, that isnt Lexus' fault. That is the result of a lack of knowledge in the brand's lineup, and possibly a sign to get your eyes checked.
i NEVER felt old in any luxo-boat S, 8, 7 or LS, i felt like a boss, maybe in a Buick Lucerne (rental)....i do agree 80% of these buyers are old men/women

Overall: until they put 600h headlights on the 460, ill take the last gen 430 first

So when was the last time you heard someone say while they're driving down the road going 70mph... "Wow the seat controls of this car are really neat and they look like a work of art!"
Seriously? Do you really think most people are concerned with how the controls look while they're driving? I've had a lot long distance seat time in the LS430 and LS460 including 600hL. The controls of the LS460's seats are very intuitive and easy to use without having to look down at the controls.
I am betting you if you put someone behind the wheel blind folded in an LS430 or LS460, chances are people will find the simplicity and usability of the controls a lot more easier to use than the 430's. Driver ergonomics and experience are key here, aesthetics are secondary.
