A "starter car" for a 16yo under $7K
Anyhow let us know what you get her, them VWs get pretty good safety scores.
Lee
I would get something Japaneese, from the 90s, those were the best years for design/paint/reliability.
Cool cars:
Integra, Prelude, Celica, MR2, Del Sol, Miata
If I were you I would get this car, dual airbags, abs, reliable, cheap, good looking:
1997 Celica GT

You will be sorry with a German car only because if something breaks you daughter (or more likely you) will get the bill.
My first car was a 1990 Honda Accord, lasted 150k miles until totaled, 2nd car was actually a crotch rocket, then when I got a car again was in college a 1991 MR2 in dark green, another winner, after graduating college I stepped up to a Lexus RX300, 5 years later got a 350Z, now that gas is through the roof, i'm going back to a 4 cylinder, 1990s, Toyota... guess which model

Well folks, I finally ended my car search. Here is our new baby...
2002 Audi A4 3.0 CVT
Dark blue/gray
65K miles, 1-owner car
loaded with all the toys
and safety gizmos (front, rear, head and side airbags, ESP & traction control)
$9,500 + TTL
Car is in Phoenix, AZ and will ship for $500 to my door (arrives 07/15). Car has 18" chrome wheels (on a Kumho 245/40/ZR18) which I'm debating if I'll keep (way too shiny)... I stopped by my local Audi shop today to drive one... drives pretty well, and that 220HP of the 3.0 is quite zippy even mated to a slushbox (multitronic/CVT). I read that the 3.0 AT was better than with the 6MT, so I gotta go with the slushbox.
And today is my daughter's b'day - turned 16, and I got to show her the car. She was obviously excited, but will be even more when the car gets here. Its what she wants. Her first car, my very first German car.... Should be an experience.
Thanks to all for the inputs and suggestions... It was fun searching and driving all sorts of cars... at the end of the day, I returned to the Audi which was indeed that which my daughter and I wanted all along...
Pictures forthcoming real soon.....

Very nice car. Your daughter is very fortunate. Stylish and safe, I'm sure it will provide here with thousands of miles of trouble free driving as well as give you piece of mind.
