Actually, I had to go wayyyyyy up... double my budget to $12K, but the condition and value of what I got is money well spent. I am happy... 2006 Civic Hy with <30K miles... A steal I call it... but don't be a-hating me now, fellas... I drive a hard bargain, and if I can stretch my budget, it gotta be extremely well worth it

Also, on the wheel upgrade - be careful as it could make the car a LOT slower too. The hybrid's wheels/tires are skinny and light for fuel economy.
I hate those wheels with a passion... Can't stand them... So off they go.. Need better looking ones. I could stay 16", but I am gonna check out 17s first... Its the only mod I plan for the car tho'... else the car is perfect as it is.

So my 14yo suggested we surprise her sister with a car on her 16th b'day. I am seriously thinking about it and wanna ask about suggestions for a "starter car" for a 16yo girl.

OK, my budget is under $7K (more like $6K but I can stretch it to $7K for the right car).
hello ms. bluestar,
1) the most important attribute of a "stater car" is safty...according to research, the starters especially the young and restless not only have more accidents but also have accidents of more serious in nature
2) 6 miles per day only burns just a little gas per day
3) so if you have a budget of $7K, pick one that you really can use and live with happily....

4)give the 1999 LS400 to your precious little girl...

5)she will be very very grateful to you and have gratitude towards your thoughtfulness and self-sacrification(you pay but you use civic and she uses lexus) in giving her superior protection when she has have her first accident in her driving experience

That is amazing?!?!? Even @ the Manheim Dealer Auctions you cant get them for less than $16k unless they are in POOR condition, especially with todays market. Im shocked that this car has a clean title history(you did check for that I hope) let alone no accident history.

If no major accidents and a clean title history you got an amazing deal! Was the seller a gambling junkie? lol

Mazda Miata. Drop top, her and her sister only (don't have to worry about her driving ton's of kids around and perhaps not focusing on driving and more focusing on conversation, she can't park her car and get in the back seat with some punk kid who wears a shirt 4 times to large and no less then 4 "blinging" chains), great gas mileage, fun to drive and very capable incase she ever underestimates a turn, brakes late, and what not, small and easy to park (we all know women are troubled in that area, safe (get her a roll cage). Toss in a nice 12" sub and amp for her, maybe a few interior LED's similar to Scion's stock LED's, a nice headunit and you have yourself a cool first car!

Get a 5spd too and convert it to a track car after she's gone!

I would worry you by telling you how comfortable the backseats in those cars are but you seem like a nice guy and I'm not an *******, so I won't.

JK, man hahaha, good choice though, thats the new body style, right?

Couldnt agree more.... Ive had 6 of them thus far, 4 s13s(89-93) and 2 s14s(95-98) very dependable car and gives roughly 25-30mpg. When she decides to dump the car, you can swap out the motor for an SR20DET and go boosting heck even with the 2.0 liter turbo motor gives a good 21-23mpg stock

Alas you are correct... I was almost scammed!!!! The seller was a scammer. He almost got me until I contacted the eBay Help Desk (online chat) just to double-check before I send over the $$$$. Yup, it was a "fake" ad to lure people like me believing they are getting a great deal Let us just say, I am sure glad I am not out of $12K tonight....

Sadly the search continues....

Whooo JULY 2nd! Thats my birthday tooo. I'm getting my first loan and purchasing a 99gs4 =) . Defineatly not the best financial desicion on my part, but im more then willing to work hard for a car i love.

I was lucky, getting into the lexus scene. My moms company had a extra car that no one was driving, and it was a lease so she was on a contract, so instead of wasting monthly payments letting it sit there, i got to take it!!

I say keep ur daughter in the lexus family. Girls with is300's are hip haha
