I love the aggressive look from the front, and the sleek profile. Agree with you. The best looking Maxima yet. Certainly better-looking than the boring Azera and the ugly, bloated Avalon.

Certainly a matter of opinion. IMO it looks more bloated than the Avalon.

IMO the best looking Maxima was either the 4th gen or the 5th gen. After seeing this 7th gen, I'm sure many Nissan fans will agree with me.

I am liking the additional pics a lot. Funny though, that side profile shot actually reminds me a lot of the ES 350 in overall shape.

I really like it...I just think the front end could have been smoothed out a bit better.

here's what i think.

the sides look like a brick/slab, like the Galant

the back looks like a frickin Yaris.

and those headlights just look so ugly from many angles.
if the front was meant to look like a Q45, they picked the wrong car to emulate. the Q45 was a flop.

Well, let's say you have 32K to spend and you have a choice of one of these.

Personally, I'd take the Max over the Avalon. Avalon looks like an elephant.

I agree. It looks so much more bloated than an Avalon. All of the curves are either overpowering or in the wrong places.

I think the 4th gen is the best looking as well. Maybe I'm biased because I had one.

The Avalon is due for a redesign soon, so we'll see how the new Avalon compares with the new Maxima. But just on interior preference alone, I would take the Avalon. Although the Avalon's exterior is bland, at least it doesn't have any strange lines, and it's doors don't look like they are dented in due to the awkward character line.

The new Maxima looks bloated even compared to the previous gen. I will give Nissan credit for differentiating it from the Altima. The new Maxima also no longer mimics the profile of the GS. I'm quite sure the next-gen GS won't look anything close to this Maxima either.

As I mentioned earlier, the square, blocky shape of the front and rear of the new Maxima make the overhangs look longer than they really are. The swoopy side character line not only gives the illusion of dented doors, it also makes the car appear more bloated.

While some may think of it as bland or boring, the character lines on the Avalon are clean and simple. Even the previous gen Maxima has relatively simple lines.

This new Maxima I think would look much better without the side character line and without the blocky bumpers. The square shape of the bumpers also conflict with the lines and styling of the front and rear end. Swoopy shapes and lines conflicting with the square shapes of the bumpers.

That is one way to look at it. Another could be that the Maxima is the natural bridge to Infiniti. The top ranging Nissan car that gives you a taste of the Infiniti brand so that you can trade up from Nissan in to Infiniti.

That rectangular grille looks totally out of place.

Agreed. Also the sculpted hood and headlights look similar to the G35 sedan.

Does this interior look familiar to anyone?

The new Maxima could easily cannibalize some G35 sales.

TDR, I can only respectfully disagree with you. I think if you took away those features you mention it loses most of its character. In other words, it just becomes another typical Asian car design.

If I was in the market for a large cushy ride, I'd take the Avalon. But otherwise, I don't care how similar the Maxima may look, I'd definitely go with the Maxima (unless they suddenly turned the SE into a Buick...)
