Exclamation Ferrari launches One-to-One customization program

Last year, Lamborghini announced its Ad Personam service for ordering thoroughly unique cars directly from the manufacturer. Now Ferrari is following suit with its One-to-One Personlization Program. Initially available only as a service for buyers of the flagship 612 Scaglietti, the service will enable complete customization via a dedicated ‘atelier’ area at the factory in Maranello.

After the premier of the Maranello operation, other ateliers will be opened around the world so that customers can get exactly the Ferrari they want, no matter where they are. The program will assist its clients in the customization process by providing consultants to help offer choices and show what is possible. In addition to the Carrozzeria Scaglietti program already available, the One-to-One will add even more unique content, making a staggering number of potential variations possible, so a guiding hand is likely to be welcome.

As an example of what can be done through the program, Ferrari is exhibiting a 612 Scaglietti that has been fully inspired by the 365 GTB4 Daytona that raced to fame in 1967. The display stand itself is a miniaturized model of the atelier being built in Maranello. Special touches in the Scaglietti on display - and all the 612s that will be involved in the launch of the One-to-One program include an electrochromic panoramic roof over the entire cabin area, which allows the visibility of a convertible with the quietude and comfort of a coupe. Also featured is a SuperFast gearbox delivering 100ms shifts.

The program will officially commence later this year, although specific dates and details are yet to be revealed.

The North American debut of the 2008 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti and the One-to-one personalisation programme.

Posted Mar 19, 2008, 2:49 pm
Ferrari officially premieres today in North America the 2008 612 Scaglietti, the model used to inaugurate the new One-to-One Personalization Program of the Company.

Ferrari intends to allow every client to fully personalise this flagship model, courtesy of a wide array of new content as well as the options available through the Carrozzeria Scaglietti Programme. In fact, a special dedicated "atelier" area has been set up at the factory, where clients can put together their own bespoke 612 Scaglietti accessory by accessory, detail by detail. In exactly the same way as they would at an haute couture fashion house, owners can choose details and materials they want for their car in consultation with the Ferrari experts who will actually build it to their exact specifications and tastes.

Clients will be assisted in making their selections by dedicated Programme consultants who can help them at every stage of defining their car's specification.

All of these unique new 612 Scagliettis will be built in a dedicated assembly area at the Maranello factory.

The 612 Scagliettis being used to launch the One-to-One Programme incorporate a series of technical evolutions that reflect the Ferrari philosophy of constantly introducing innovations in each model. Most notably, the V12 flagship now boasts an electrochromic panoramic roof which covers the entire top of the cabin. The electrochromic glass can be changed at the touch of a button to adjust the levels of sunlight allowed into the cabin. This solution was developed in close collaboration with Saint Gobain, a partner with whom Ferrari has most recently developed a similar highly innovative solution for the Superamerica.

In addition to its electrochromic roof, the 612 Scaglietti also sports the aptly named SuperFast gearbox which delivers an exceptional gear-shifting time of 100 milliseconds and a reduced inertia clutch to enhance the engine's responsiveness still further. The iconic Ferrari manettino, now featured on the entire range, has also been added to the steering wheel.

The Company's sporting history is represented at the Park Avenue Showroom by the 430 Scuderia, an extreme model voted "Dream Car of the Year" by the authoritative British car magazine Top Gear.

I don't get. Lamborghini started there own personalization program late last year. And now Ferrari is doing it. I always thought you had the option to personalize these cars years ago??

Unless now they are only publising it and giving it an official name?

I think they are taking it to a whole new level as far as what is available. From the article above, it seems that many more options in terms of personal customization will be offered. Take the 'customers will get to choose their own materials' line, for example.

In the past (just speaking from personal experience doing a 360 order), there were lots of options to select (and tons of colors) but nothing as detailed as actual materials.

And they dictate how much and how often you must drive it and to whom you can sell it to, etc.
