Interior looks really sharp, but the corolla needs a more exciting design. I think a major roadblock for the Corolla design is the Scion. both the tC and the corolla compete with the civic, and i'm guess HQ doesn't want either (tC, corolla) to step on each others toes. Result: one is very practical, cheap, and bland; the other is sporty, slightly more expensive, and fun. Not to say I don't like the corolla, I do, but it is one of the "those" cars that you sell to people who only want to get from point A to point B.

zzzzzzz. They didn't really improve much over the existing model, visually. In fact, it looks very much the same, with a few pumped-up fender buldges.
Manual tranny, huh? I didn't expect that. What are the chances they'd ever sell a manually trannied Corolla in the states?

I'd take a manual tranny. Would make my interstate commute more fun. Its fun to drop a car into 3rd gear and watch it go no where. LOL
But, seriously, I'd take one as a DD. Its nice and clean. Just what I like. Let the ricers have their civic and ridiculous insurance rates. If I had to choose it'd be the Corolla or the Mazda 3.

If people want something ricey, they'll get a Civic or Scion.
Otherwise, the Corolla is a smart inexpensive choice for a daily beater.
Conservative/bland means you get the most amount of potential buyers.
Making something too stylized means you are appealing to a certain group of people, instead of the masses.
Exterior is simple. But that interior is definately a good move.

I realize this is a car enthusiast forum but the rest of the world isn't as crazy as we are when it comes to our driving experience.

Do you think people who wanted excitement would be in a Corolla/Civic/Mazda 3? I'm betting they are there for fuel economy and cost.
I realize this is a car enthusiast forum but the rest of the world isn't as crazy as we are when it comes to our driving experience.

These small cars are all up in the 2700-2800 lb range these days. They're no longer the featherweight bargain cars a lot of us grew up with.
Great thing about these small compact cars (aside from corolla) is their light weight. You can toss them around for fun without having to worry too much about fuel consumption. Drive it hard and you get what, 30mpg?

That's pretty nice looking. My practical side says to buy that instead of something like a Corvette. Another part of my practical side says to buy a Cobalt because I have GM card dollars making it even cheaper to buy than it already is, and hey, if it's under warranty... who cares?
