My guess is that Pontiac G6 article earlier this week was the final straw. The reviewer called the G6 a "total failure" and said that the interior was completely "without style." I agree, lol...

...and they liked the GS!!!
I didnt think it was such a bad car, much better then the car it replaces, a Mild V6 for the price of a 4 cylinder in competing sedans is not a bad deal. I dunno do I want a 160 hp Accord, a 175 hp altima? Or a 200 hp G6? They all handle somewhat similar too. And are at the same price.
I think the G6 has some good points, I haven't studied the car in great detail...however as of so far, it is not a big success, and the interior pics look off to me...but that's a matter of perspective.
The real problem with these Pontiacs is they should not have taken the body cladding off. I said a long time ago that I didn't think the cars would sell without it. We saw that the GTO didn't sell mainly because people thought it looked too bland....now we're seeing the same thing with the G6. People have come to expect cladding on Pontiacs...it is what makes their cars distinctive. What traditionally has been the largest-seller among Pontiacs?......The Grand Am, of course...the one with the most cladding.
The truth hurts sometimes, and GM must be feeling a lot of pain. They have already shot themselves in the foot and the general public is just waiting to see how long they are going to bleed. They have made some really dumb decisions lately (scrapping the Zeta platform, moving Bob Lutz out of NA production and into International brand placement, putting an American in charge of Australia's Holden brand, the Pontiac Asstek, etc). I have owned quite a few new GM cars and trucks over the past 15 years, and I seriously doubt I ever will own another again. I think a lot of other people are feeling the same way, and thankfully some of those people work in the media and can get these opinions out in the open.

Not to mention the Two Billion dollar payout that just happened recently with Fiat I agree GM is in some serious trouble & they also pay out over Five Billion a year on health costs for their employees globally It's a wonder if they will ever turn a profit again!

Bingo, I felt the cladding was distinctiive and you knew it was a Pontiac.
I think GM has a point. The bashing needs to end. It seems every journalist has jumped on the bandwagon and its now 5 years late. GM has turned around some, even if the cars are not class leading, they are now somewhat competative. I think they are some Japanese brands and cars that are just as bad but they don't get it b/c they are Japanese. Heck the Korean bashing has pretty much ceased, why not the GM bashing? Both have made good improvments (the Koreans more so with quality).
I do wish GM would take all the energy and thought they put into the C6 Vette into all of they're products.

I think the GM quality issue is only half the story. GM has put all of their eggs into the truck/SUV basket and left almost nothing left for the other market segments (compact car, midsize sedan, luxury cars, sports cars, etc). The only smart thing they have done in recent years was to axe Oldsmobile. If they would do the same for Buick and GMC, they might be ok. Then reposition Pontiac as their performance division, continue with Cadillac as the luxury division, and keep Saturn as the compact division, I think they would have a chance to be on top.
The debate over the LA Times vs. GM on autoblog.com is prefaced with the editor's opinion that Dan Weil, the ONLY Pulitzer Prize-winning auto journalist (who happened to like the new GS!!!) is highly respected, and that his criticism of GM is right on the mark.

That will take time, though. GM markets a LOT of vehicles, and they can't redo them all at once. Their engineers and designers can't work 24 hours a day.
