dunno if you are joking, as it is VERY rare for people to make this trade, but I traded my 90 LS400 for the Scion xA. . . I can tell you don't really like the xB, which is understandable, but you should really consider the xA rather than a Kia. . . or at least a Corolla.

I traded not just because of gas prices, but because of high maintainence and repair costs. . . btw I cut my spending on gas right in half! The xA gives me just as much "grin factor" as the LS did, although it isn't as luxurious or "pimp" like. However, the xA is an attention magnet. Everywhere you go, people run up and ask questions, and I get really cool conversations started (with really damn fine chicks) at stoplights. The LS was great, but it didn't attract much attention. Don't get me wrong, if I could have a mint condition, perfectly running Lexus, I would take it in a heartbeat. But in terms of all "cheap" cars, I think Scion is the way to go. . . the xB seems to be ruining the whole product line's image, although they do grow on you, and I really am starting to like them now (as much interior room as a Ford Explorer). Also consider the Scion tC. . . it has similar performance numbers to a Lexus IS300. . . and is another great head turner.

i love the xb, and the mustang gt(the current one). but xb is like 14g and mustang gt , even the mustang is gonna kill my insurance and gas bill. so reality is choice. thanx for the ideas guys, let me read on...

girls ask u about xa??? r u for real? wow, das pretty cool. i know xa will look pretty cute with a girl driver as well

also, xb some ppl love it others don't. for some of the old chinese folks it's like a funeral car, so that's kindda outta question. even though i love that car., & the space of it too. tc is gonna be out of my range as well. u guys can really tell that i'm trying to save any way i can.

i was thinking of a mini, but that car's still $$$$. how come u guys didn't recommend me the corolla?

Sounds like a wise decision. I know so many people who fall on hard times yet refuse to take a step back and lower their cost of living... Or even those, a lot of people, who cannot afford the car in the first place but want to look like a balla while all their working capital is getting eaten up.

I respect anyone who is willing to take a step back on non-necessary items so they can live a little better or accumulate wealth a little faster....

Smart move in my eyes.........

jpa, like I said, I made the same move. . . it's just not a common one. . . usually when you go lexus, you never go back.

The xA gets a ton of attention, but not as much as the xB. The reason I didn't get an xB, is that there are numerous accounts of vandalism from idiot kids, and I live in a college town. . . I don't want a window smashed in with a bottle or key marks on my new car. As for the attention from the xA, I think it's more that the design is unique and it catches people's eyes. But believe me, it's no Porsche. . . as I was lucky enough to borrow a 911 GT3 for a few weeks (from my brother). Anyway, most people who take a ride in the xA freak out when they find out it was only 15k out the door (tax and everything), sticker is for about 13.5k.

I didn't mention the Corolla, but I would also recommend it as well. I actually recommended it to my best friend, and he was able to buy it at cost (uncle is a dealer). I don't know if you've ever been to a Toyota dealer, but they are ALL A** holes. I hate the Toyota dealer with a passion. They mark up all their cars, and only order them with almost every option. You'd be lucky to land a well equiped Corolla for less than 18k, which is a rip off. Honda is very similar too in that regard. Did you know that because of lame dealers, it is cheaper to buy a Scion with more options, than a stripped Toyota Echo? Ha! Scion has that nice "Saturn" style pricing. . . where it is a no haggle price. The quote you get online, is the price you pay. No more, no less. The Corolla is a great car, just choose dealers wisely. In terms of value, I think the xA is a better deal, but it depends on what you want. If you want more info on Scion's go to www.scion.com and do the "build your Scion" option. BTW, if you lean towards the Corolla, REALLY look at the tC. . . panorama all glass roof!!!!!! Styling borrowed from the BMW 6 series! Also check out www.scionlife.com , probably the best forums for Scion's (but still no match for CL )

I would buy a used Lexus GS (even 1st gen) or SC instead of getting a cheap new car. Feel the doors on the xB - I don't think they offer much protection in a crash.

Yeah. . . that's another reason why I didn't buy the xB. The xA doors are much more solid, more so than my 1990 LS400's were. Both the xA and the tC are better built IMO, but the xB has more to offer, and it requires more raw material to build thus more expensive to manufature. . . they had to cheap out somewhere.

But I think tally was lookin for a car to save some money on, and getting another Lexus wouldn't help that. BTW, for those who do consider used Lexuses, low mileage, newer years are ideal. But you can't land those for cheap. When Lexuses get into high mileage, they are $$$$ to maintain. Timing belts? Fugettaboudit. Fuel savings are huge, especially for those who drive/commute a lot. You use regular instead of premium, not to mention fuel mileage that is almost double. Savings = a whole helluva lot. Insurance. . . CAR PAYMENTS. . . maintainence. . . gas. . . that's quite a bit. But if money were not an issue, Lexus would be ideal 100%

People who posted before me already made some good suggestions, i.e. Scion xA and xB.

But if price is really an issue, from what I gathered the Chevrolet Aveo is a lot of car for the price. Huge instant cash-back ($1500) too, effectively selling way below invoice.
Give it a look!

Sorry to see you leaving Lexus, but you've gotta do what you've gotta do sometimes. Good luck!

Motortrend did a comparison a few months back. . .

BUT, i think with a used corolla it can save me at least 6g if i got it used. it's prolly for me to get a used car so the depreciation value can be somewhat reduced. ///btw, how are the seats in xa feeling? ok for the l.a. traffic???? keep in mind i would like to have some leg room coz i'm not 5'4''. :P how about arm support?? thanx much.
