Well whenever there's a discussion about gas prices, guess what kind of car owners jump in with a big smirk on their face telling everyone how much it cost to charge and not having to go to a gas station and no maintenance and such? Like duh, why would you need an oil change with no engine?
If you are happy with what you drive, that shouldn't worry you. The realities of owning an EV are no gas station, and no oil changes and no maintenance. We are not putting it in your face, we are only sharing our experiences. If you feel that's what we are doing, I apologize

ICE owners have never told us how they can drive 900 miles without stopping and can gas up in 3 minutes.

Generating my own fuel for transportation (solar panels) is appealing to me. I mean, I can't have an oil well or refinery on my property. So... there's a self-sufficiency aspect to an EV that doesn't exist with ICE. Otherwise, the difference in the price of gasoline versus electricity isn't going to affect my life. If it did, I'd have way bigger problems than the price of fueling my vehicles.
There was a time when having a fast car and quick acceleration from stop lights was important to me... then I graduated high school.
This is just more proof to me that we need to restore the EV Sub forum. How can we share the realities of how it is to live with an EV when that offends some people, they think we are making fun of them by saying we don't have to change our oil or go to a gas station?

That's only one aspect of an EV. I like fast cars, sue me . But to your point, being able to "fuel" at home is the most important aspect of an EV to me, followed by no major maint
Starting next week I will be on a big project for my company, and this will probably be the last time I am able to post a thread for awhile. This post is two part, part I is just a summary of why I've gone BEV, and why it's the best choice for me. I will not make this too long if I can, as most people have already read my various threads and I don't want to be too repetitive. Part II will be directed towards the moderators of this forum.
Part I
Many people automatically assume (falsely) most EV buyers move into this space to save the environment, save money, end their dependence on oil, or to virtue signal. That may be true for some, but speaking strictly for myself, I didn't make this move for any of those reasons. At 58 years young (I absolutely refuse to be old), most of my adult life was spent owning and driving various cars. As the former Director of IT for the parent company of my current employer, I traveled several times a year to your San Antonio Texas office and took the liberty of renting cars like Mustang GT's, Chargers (RT mostly), Cadillac CTS (3.6L). I've driven and enjoyed cars like LC500, BMW M3 and M4 Comp, M440i, LS460, and once rented (and almost crashed) a Lambo Huracan in 2017 while in Dubai. I've personally owned cars like the VW GTI, several Camry's, a 10th Gen Civic Si, and my last ICE car was an IS350 Sport that I modded (suspension and steering). So most of my adult life was spent driving and owning ICE. And I still have a deep connection to those roots, I still have respect for the engineering that went into vehicles, and I've never lost that respect. Then in 2022 I test drove a Polestar 2, and my whole perspective changed. Dual motors, 476 HP, 546 ft-lbs torque, 0 to 60 in 3.7 seconds (on every launch, any surface), and smooth as glass drive train. I fell in love instantly.
So let me just lay out in simple terms why I went EV and left the ICE camp:
Instant, on demand torque that never disappoints
HP delivery without compromise
Smooth NVH free drive train
More efficient than a Prius (136 MPGe for my Model 3 and 126 MPGe for my Model Y)
Virtually maint free...if you don't count the case of windshield wiper fluid I buy every 6 months )
Ability to charge at home, and a vast statewide supercharging network that allows me to travel
I didn't buy my EV's to save money. I didn't buy them to virtue signal. I didn't buy them because I hate ICE...I don't. I moved to BEV's because IMO they are an evolution in vehicle tech, they drive better, they are smoother and quieter, less complicated, and more efficient at the same time. Kind of like being able to eat dessert and not worry about getting fat and diabetes. Never have to go to gas stations, never have to go for oil changes or visit my mechanic, who is missing me btw. That's it. Very simple. I get a car that's fast, smooth, quiet and super efficient.
Now I understand that there are many of you who don't want or care for EV's. I respect that, and to you I want to say I'm not pushing my choices on you or anyone. I'm just sharing my reasons and experiences of owning and leasing EV's over the last almost 6 years. I absolutely love them, I love the way they drive, I love that in a straight line 90 percent of cars can't touch me, and I love that I can fuel them at home directly from the sun or power stored from the sun in batteries. There are no political or ideological reasons I chose EV's over ICE. It's purely performance and technology of EV's.
Part II
To the moderators. I totally respect you guys and what you are doing. And I acknowledge that you guys are volunteers, and it's not easy moderating a bunch of grown children . I'm not writing this to tell you guys what to do, but I feel strongly that the evidence here is showing that breaking the EV sub forum and integrating it with the General Car Chat is not working. I won't get into it too much here, just to say that although both are classified as cars, there has not been enough bridges that have been gapped yet. Although I believe that a large number of ICE owners on here are open to at least learning more about EV's, the clashes that are taking place are the reason we asked Dave for the EV sub forum. I won't say anymore on this.
Lastly...please guys, come up with some rules so things are not so confusing. If you guys need help writing guidelines, I'm willing to pitch in. When Dave setup the EV sub forum, I helped him write the rules, and with help from Lex2k we were able to come up with acceptable do's and don'ts. Even if the rules are more relaxed, there should be minimum guidelines.
Anyway, that's it. Peace to all 👍
40 roll…😏🤪
Is it me or do all EV owners have the dirtiest windshields and always cleaning them. WTH!!!! LOL that’s a bottle of windex on his windshield 😂 I took the pic because the charger was parked in EV parking. Noticed the windex bottle on the mach e afterwards.

I’m happy you love BEVs and hope you feel the same when someone tells you they prefer ICE. What I don’t like is the BEV folks trying to convert ppl to their “side”.

I must have missed all the times this happened.
This is the other poster who always post “dragging around dead weight” and “first used the worst of both worlds” line

I use no name brand Me loves windshield fluid 👍
I don't understand why that would offend anyone. If someone told me their iPhone was better than my OnePlus, I wouldn't be offended. A BMW M3 Comp is superior to your Prius. Does that offend you?

Never offended by it just tired of seeing it. While I feel like you and I can joke with each other about cars and not take it serious or anyone being offended, I have seen you post multiple times EVs are superior to gas cars and for some odd reason you always compare your MPGe to Prius 😂 Again not offended at all just what I’ve noticed and maybe others.
But let’s take your BMW M3 Comp is superior to your Prius comment and say someone post X car is faster than your Model 3 and your first response is “it’s also 2x more expensive and less efficient” along with your MPGe and low maintenance (minus wiper fluid and tire rotations that I’ve encouraged you to do yourself instead of paying someone).
Again not offended about Prius comments. Trust me if I didn’t already have it, I would have an EV. I do a lot of driving and my Prius is my mileage dump/commuter car. I used to have a 1,000 mile/wk commute. It works for me how I use it
So now,
40 roll or nah…🤪
I’ll be 0-80 ready pretty soon in Supra 😏

Well I apologize if I'm hurting someone's feelings, It's not my intention. You have to realize that I believe EV's are an evolution in car tech, but it's all my opinion. Also if a car can beat me, it can beat me I won't make any excuses. In fact I'm very careful to say I don't go against "modded cars". Just to let you know, that's not how I bench mark a car, because I had a friend who had a modded Si at nearly 600 WHP that could blow anything away. It wasn't very pleasant to drive, but it was FAST and put a lot of cars to shame including and probably would my Model 3 as well.
I know my limitations, I would decline your 40 roll
Imagine defending/promoting an Automotive segment that has lost tens of BILLIONS of Dollars for both Legacy and Startup brands. Anyway you put it, the EV Business has been a disaster for automakers and has been pretty much rejected by retail consumers around the world as of now.
Can preferences change in the future? Yes
But as of today in 2026 - there is no smart business case to be made for EVs. In fact, we have seen every single Automaker including Tesla pull back or entirely Cancel their EV plans!
CL is a forum with mostly ICE owners and I think it’s been pretty open and fair with many of the folks that converted to EVs. But its tiring to hear how great the EVs are like we as ICE owners have not experienced a Tesla lol Hell I can save thousands driving BMW iX instead of X5. We know the benefits and shortcomings, please save your breath.
I don’t go on Ferrari forums and tell them that a GT3 is superior lol

So that's your position then, that this is an ICE forum and we are invaders? Just getting this on the record. Nothing against you
