similarly in my line of work... age most often correlates to being stuck in one's ways

even when i worked at the toyota dealer like 10 years ago there'd be people that had a mentality of 'if they don't take 25% off the sticker price it's a rip off!!'

i've noticed that 'curse words' are literally just filler that largely depend on where you grew up... they're not actually meant to cause any offense and for the most part are interchangeable with saying 'um' or 'like' when you're looking for the right word

totally different than something like an ethnic or racial slur which is meant to be hurtful

Totally, and was said before it brings stubbornness in their wrongness also. We see that on display here as well.

Can’t imagine profanity will attract new members to CL and very hard to see an increase in member engagement, personally will just ignore replies that include profanity. Wrong direction…

Weren't millennials supposed to be the offended snowflakes, and not the boomers?

I honestly don't really get why it's okay to say you are good with profanity on here but not okay to say you aren't fine with it. Either way it's just an opinion. As long as the opinion is offered respectfully and without judgement (on both sides of the argument), I fail to see what the big deal is or, frankly, why we're still talking about it. But I dunno...maybe it's just me...

Although some of the oldest and/or most infirm ones are starting to die off, most Boomers are still a very large and very diverse group along those lines. I don't like the term "snowflake", but for people who use it, it only applies to a certain limited number of Boomers.....and Boomers run the gamut from Saints to Sinners, just like any other demographic.

Cursing is so few and far between it’s a non starter. I could understand if the forum was riddled with cursing.

correction - the 'allowing' of profanity was not a mod or former admin decision, it was by the owners of the forum, Internet Brands. if you or anyone want further clarification, you can send a PM.

For the most part, DaveGS4 didn't, either, when he was with us.

yes, Dave didn't like that decision, but he decided to 'retire' for his own reasons, let's leave it at that. we owe him a lot for his decades of dedicated work on here.

that's it, i'm going to ban you and get pansies filtered out.

oh absolutely. often meaning well, many were oblivious of tremendous biases, barriers, prejudice, and outright wrongs in society. we're still an imperfect nation and always will be, but more 'fair' and aware than in the past.

amen to that. for many (most?) their prejudices don't go away, they often get hardened and one gets to hear a lot of "well back in my day..." and "the good old days..." lol

it does happen, yes, but not so often in my experience.

Why is using a swear word still discussed? Its normal life. Guess what, you can tell your kids not to swear and not swear infront of them all day long. Guess what, the minute they leave the house, they will learn all the swear words and even new swear words that will make your head spin. It's part of life

Swear if you want or dont its entirely up to the individual. Just dont swear at someone, tell others what they cant or can do, or be a hypocrite. If you go and admonish someone for cursing, your own actions and values better align with your admonishment or I will have no problems calling you out for it and keep the mods bz (busy) here.

Personally, if someone swears at me, I just shrug and move on. I love it when I'm gaming and winning and the losing team calls me a ******* moron. I simply respond with "you just got beat by a ******* moron"
