"Suck?" Perhaps ...but, with all due respect, aren't you the one who is always telling us that home and vehicle-prices (and leases) are primarily-determined by the market and supply/demand? Especially in this money-rich D.C. area, there is a demand for upscale vehicles....gotta pay to play.
I'm not saying the prices are wrong, I'm saying the lease deals suck, and they do. Toyota has decided that they don't need to offer any sort of incentives to sell vehicles and that extends lease residuals and MFs. The MF on the TX550h+ is over 7% interest, compare to a GLS which is under 1% interest with a $5,000 rebate. That makes the GLS and the TX550h+ the same monthly lease cost despite the GLS being $15-20k more expensive. Not faulting Toyota for doing that, they clearly can sell the car just for me that doesn't present an attractive value.
The MSRP of the vehicle is fair for what it is, $85-87k fully loaded PHEV. If I were somebody who buys a car and keeps it 10 years it would be a good buy...but thats not me so for my situation the GLS is a better fit because of the lease deals. In fact lease deals on the GLS are so good right now I can get a $125k GLS580 for $100 more per month than a $105k GLS450...
Just another example of how Lexus isn't catering to me as a customer anymore.

Not really lol, 3 rows with a usable third row and room behind it for luggage, PHEV or EV with at least 300 miles of range. The GLS is the outlier because we really like it.
if the GLS or others get the PHEV feature, i expect them to be WAY more expensive than other options (gas, hybrid).
Not necessarily. Other MB PHEVs are priced like the V8 option, S580e is the same price as the S580.GLE450e is the same MSRP as the GLS450. Leases also make it so they are similar.
seems like you really have no interest in an ev since none have the range you want unless you get an unproven gravity
Rivian has plenty of range, and vehicles like the Vistiq and Ioniq 9 also have 300 which would be fine.
even if you could make it to your cousin’s with zero stops, you’d still needs to charge to get back and it sounds like he lives in a charging ‘dessert’ unless you risk burning down his house (kidding!) with the dryer plug option we’ve discussed (which i think would work absolutely fine - i even have a 30A level 2 charge i could sell ya for cheap ).
Always would need to stop to get down there, that doesn't bother me. What concerns me is charging while I'm there which like you said would likely be fine. Burning down his house is a serious possibility LOL
you say the XC90 is ‘tight inside’, well almost every suv that fits in your garage will be compared to the pacifica.
Not really. TX is fine interior sizewise, as is the GLS and the X7, Vistiq is also fine. Rivian is also fine but tighter. There are plenty of crossover 3 rows that are totally fine sizewise its just the PHEV wrinkle really limits the choices. Without that there are lots of vehicles that would work, QX60 is another one. The GM 3 rows all have lots of room, VW Atlas has plenty of room.
They're all smaller inside than the Pacifica but they would work. Its really just older vehicles like the XC90 that are tighter inside.
they all have compromises… just have to pick which ones.
Thats the thing that leads us to consider keeping the Pacifica. I think in a couple years there will be more choices. The EV Highlander will be out. I hear the new Atlas will have a PHEV option, may see PHEV GLS and X7...might be better off just waiting.

Yeah my guy and the SM there pulled up the inventory around us. There are 7 in the country they could in theory get out of like 54 on the ground or in transit which are spoken for, the issue is getting a dealer that has one that is unsold that they could get them to trade for. Why would they trade an easily sold high profit car for ANYTHING else right? So they would have to allocate me one and he said it could take 3-6 months. They would sell it to me at MSRP with no add on BS. But, the lease rates are what they are. The MF is the worst I have ever seen other than the MF on the Pacifica I have which was like 9%, but it had $20k in rebates that made up for that plus the $7,500 tax credit. No such luck this time...
I may have them try and do that anyways, he said he would do it for me with no deposit. I mean, if I didn't take it they would sell it in 5 minutes. Then when they find one we could decide to do it or not.
I even thought about snagging a NEW leftover Pacifica PHEV for another 3 year lease but there are none left really on the ground.

i think the real issue is your garage isn't big enough.

gls450 is 90k base and gls580 is 116k base. so yeah, huge difference.

makes a lot of sense, and your pacifica is a 'known' and has already taken the depreciation hit although i don't know how your buy out is compared to its market value.
I joined CL before our son was born. He's in College now. Scary!
They say as you get older time moves faster and that is so true!

I don't love the new Telluride, I have been looking at it and watching videos. Not ready to give up on the PHEV at least yet...but if we do it would open up lots of options. The desire isn't to avoid the gas station its to have the nice smooth, quiet EV driving day to day.

That is an issue lol
My wife wouldn't drive a big BOF truck though, even if that would fit that would be a non-starter. We rent them in FL all the time and she hates climbing up into them etc. Something like a Yukon or Grand Wagoneer would be great but thats a non starter.

But the way the lease programs are the 580 is only $100 more a month because it has better residuals and a better MF than the 450, thats the thing. The MSRP difference really doesn't matter.

Buyout is pretty good, its $30k exactly and right now they are going for like $36k with similar miles. It only has 29,000 miles on it. Financially it doesn't make much sense to buy it and keep it only 2 years and then get something else, makes more sense to just lease something else now...but there isn't something we really like and if we're going to make a big jump in price it'd be nice if it was something we really wanted...

Think of it this way... with time flying the way it does (my twins are almost 14 and I literally can't believe that), you could keep the Pacifica for just under 4 years and hand it down to your twins to use as their first car. Start them off with a swagger wagon!
Seems like the price increased recently on them because I recall them being around $80k-$85k
They're around $85k, those have $5k in dealer installed (markup) stuff.

I had an brainwave earlier (to quote the great Jeremy Clarkson)...Mazda CX-90 has a surprisingly good bit of room in and behind the 3rd row...stellar build quality and reliability. I-6 is a powerhouse and you have a PHEV option...
Or...hear me out...the Mitsu Outlander PHEV. Nor sure how attractive the leasing options are or if either of these are to your tastes, but, just a thought.

Hahaha. This is what I did with my wife's CX-9; and when I was replacing my 3-Series, I told my youngest (who was then driving the CX-9) that we were getting rid of the Mazda and he was going to take the 3-Series (it was newer and had less miles)--and he resisted and said he'd rather stay with the mom-mobile . He lost that argument...
