Actually for the first time this generation they put the star on the grille for the S63:

Some nice improvements. 4.5 degree rear axle steering is now standard, Digital Lights are now standard. Power rear seats now standard. The illuminated hood ornament is optional and looks like the AMG Appearance package is indeed standard on the S580...

The updates to the S63 with removal of the battery pack and rear motor looks very promising at least.

It's growing a little on me.

Looks great from the side:

I just confirmed THE DRIVER CAN'T SEE THE LIT UP HOOD STAR!!!! Only passersby. I'm broken hearted, but I guess I understand for safety and regs.

Wow that doesn't look very secured... and seems vulnerable to the elements.

I don't dislike 3/4ths of the look of the refresh but I will bitch about the same things I always do on the front end....

Stupid oversized lower grills that don't have any function

Cheapened metalwork/more injection molded plastics

Hood doesn't meet the grill and lights directly, plastic transitional are makes it more cheap looking...they made it reach the headlights but not grill?!?

Holy Christ we have a LIGHT UP hood Star, we don't need repeating grill starts and headlights. It's starting to give late 90s early 2000s JDM car vibes.

To be clear I don't dislike the lit star at all, but just do that and don't go overboard. Its like people who have a grill logo, front vanity plate holder frame with the brand name, front plate with the brand symbols, and a vinyl banner over the windscreen

If only the hood had two layers of steel, with a void in between them. Like, exactly where that wire is run.

My issue is that the S Class, and a Mercedes in general, has always been restrained in terms of its prestige. That simple little three pointed star used to say more when it was just there on the hood...not plastered all over the place. Its obscene. Real prestige speaks quietly.

outside the screens replacing the wood and the stars all over I like it. AMG will be even better. The event seemed really cool they hosted.
