They have never made any car equal to an S600 lol. I never said they had. I don’t care about higher tier cars than what I am buying. V12s don’t interest me because I would never buy one.
You’re arguing a completely different point. My point was that at the time the LS430 was arguably the best car in its class. The S600 isn’t in its class.
Thank you for admitting it.
I do care about that level of car and the LS is the flagship of Lexus (was) and thus is to be compared to the other flagships. It fails against the full grade versions from the big 3 and therefore isn't the pick for me if given a choice with equal ownership effort required.
I don't find it acceptable to drive an XF30 in "okay" shape and I know what I needed to do to get it back to factory spec vs the other cars I've owned and the effort level is way too out of line for what the car is. If I'm just looking for something nice to drive that won't give me serious issues then yeah, it's an amazing car for that.
However I want it feel something when I drive and I got more feeling out of 2 days in a real flagship vs 4 years of LSs.
If your kids are in competitive sports and competitions which require roadtrips carrying bunch of gear, you will be loading up the minivan instead of checking a bunch of bags at the airport.
I don't have kids (yet, maybe) but I always take a car on 600-1000 mile tips to shooting competitions/meets lol!
Gear for the two of use usually partially fills the rear seats if it's a 3 gun event because we have 2 LONG shotguns and two rifles per person. Can't fit the shotgun cases in the trunk of the D4s but the LS can fit one of them back there at least
This guy tried to cut me and I let him in. He really wanted to smoke me hard. He smoked me and the rest of us on this road for the next 5 miles then exit. Lol. What could be happening with his car? Only right pipe.
So just an update on the Pacifica being in the shop. Still in the shop, now been a full week. Checked in and he replies "We are still on track to get it back to you by the end of the week" No...I was told you'd have it back to me by the end of LAST week...so we are in fact OFF track...
All for an airbag recall, securing a piece of insulation in the passenger side fender and re-securing the carpet from the rear luggage well. Apparently they had to order new carpet?! It just needed to be resecured under the trim in the back...but whatever...
My wife is supposed to take 5 kids and herself to a birthday party Friday evening...won't be able to do that if we don't have it back.
Holy ****. And here I feel bad if I need to tell someone parts are delayed so pickup is going to be after hours vs 5pm....
I said it multiple times before that you just didn’t read it. Nothing to “admit” lol. I don’t care that Lexus never made a competitor to the S600 because I would never have bought it. Same as how I don’t care that BMW cancelled the V12 7 or that MB cancelled in it any iteration but the Maybach. Doesn’t impact me at all.

Couple of things:
1. You’ve never bought any flagship car new, you’re not actually a consumer of these cars when it comes to an example of a typical buyer. People who shopped new for LS430s and S430s didn’t care about the existence of an S600 they were never going to buy. I know…because we were that consumer.
The S600 existing didn’t change the fact that the LS430 was a better car than the S430 or S500, which is why we chose the LS430
2. You did in fact buy 3 LSs used. So you saying now because they don’t compete with higher end cars it wouldn’t be your choice makes no sense. It was in fact your choice…3 times.
However I want it feel something when I drive and I got more feeling out of 2 days in a real flagship vs 4 years of LSs.
35,000 people a year bought LS430s, more than those who bought the same generation S Class or 7 Series and certainly A8, so clearly for those buyers that was not an issue
So then clearly the LS430 had room to improve as more Camrys were sold in the same year according to your logic.
I don't buy them new because they aren't worth that to me, you also don't buy them. You rent them, I spend more than your car rental on my shooting hobby because I prioritize that and the relative experience I get from cars for a given amount of money always results in my buying used.
I also have ability to own literally whatever car I want used, safety, without needing to be at the mercy of warranty so why wouldn't I use that advantage to save literally over $150k?
Just because I don't prefer to buy them new doesn't meant I can't and at the end of the day I have owned more, higher end cars than you have and I will continue to keep pushing to higher tiers. This year I'll be seeing a supercar added to the collection and a final edition Flying Spur in 2 years max.
The fact I chose not to buy or rent these type of cars new doesn't have any bearing on my ability to discern relative quality and stature and make judgement on what cars are better than others.
I bought the LSs because they are great cars, I've moved onto greater ones.
Ive forgone blowing a lot of money on cars because I wanted my house paid off by 30, it's now paid off so if I really felt like it I can blow $5500 a month on a car of my choice......but that's wasteful in my mind.

i welcome being disproved about this but to me the V12 century is absolutely at 'full flagship' levels when it was released in 1997, and i'd say it held its ground completely until benz put turbos on the V12 at which point that thing just became a monster lol
but compared to the early W220 S600 or E38 750i you're truly just making a tradeoff between complete luxury vs sporty luxury

We never got them though, and I'm still mad about it. One of those will be entering my collection in the summer most likely btw so forum members will get to drive it etc if you visit me lol

oh i'll head out there! i've always wanted to hit up cedar point and the dayton aviation museum (can't think of any other reasons to go to ohio lol) if i can ride around in a century too then that's strike 3!
btw the holy grail of holy grail when it comes to the century is that they did make several left hand drive models, you know for when important japanese dignitaries visited countries where they drive on the right... good luck ever seeing one of those for sale

Well I F’d around last night and almost found out but avoided a bad night. Sorry for the long post but, well it’s Sunday, nothing else to do.
I had my family with me for my son’s last hockey game of the year and it was in VA about an hour and 10 minutes from my house. We decided to take the Cayenne and the distance to empty reading said 118 miles left and the distance each way was about 62 miles each way. I wanted to get gas on the way out there at a Shell station because I had $0.50 off a gallon but we were running late so I couldn’t stop. 93 octane was $4.09 at the Shell station as we passed by.
On the way home there was a Shell station near the rink. I stopped by and while 87 octane was $2.99 a gallon, 93 was $4.78 a gallon. For some odd reason I am cheap when it comes to paying gas, don’t ask, I don’t know why. I looked at distance to empty and it said 55 miles to empty and Waze said 62 miles to get home. I said **** it, I’ll wait until I get home, there has to be at least 2 gallons of reserve.
So we head home and I look down and the DTE says around 15 miles and no big deal, it looks like I should be fine but when it gets low enough the DTE disappears and a warning message displays to get fuel. No worries, at this point I close to my exit for home and one about 2 miles from the Shell station.
Then it happens, I get an error message to go see the dealer and power is reduced. Power is cut and im going 70mph and I get no power and it is slowly going down and I feel like I am just coasting. I get in the right lane and its gets slower and slower down to 45, 35, 25, and I put my hazards on and drive on the shoulder. I am so close to the gas station but I’m sweating I’m not going to make it all with my family giving me ****.
I’m sweating bullets but I somehow limp into the gas station going 5mph. I make it to the first pump which is a solo pump about 75 feet from the other pumps, yes! I turn the car off and go to pump gas and the pump screen has an error message, it doesn’t work. I go to start my car to move to a different pump and it won’t start. I’m panicking and looked to see if pump on the other side of mine was working and it was but it won’t reach around the pump. So I thought maybe it will reach if I go over the pump and luckily it reaches, yes!! So I pull in a full tank and I go to start my car and it doesn’t start. Try it again and it starts up! Only issue is it says the stop/start is malfunctioning but I make it home.
Long story but the lesson learned is the Porsche isn’t messing around with DTE, there is no reserve like all of my other cars even though I always refuel with a quarter tank left.
@BayeauxLex If you ever buy a Porsche, remember this!
Lol I almost made the same mistake when I got my cayenne. I usually run my Lexus close or to zero. Ran the cayenne down to 14 miles remaining then filled up. I was shocked when it took 25.8 gallons (holds a total of 26.4). That's when I realized it doesn't have a "reserve".
So then clearly the LS430 had room to improve as more Camrys were sold in the same year according to your logic.

Would the argument be the same if the price delta used was the same when new? So for argument sake the LS430 was 20k used and the S600 was 80k?
