General Car Conversation - 2026 Part 1
Lol yep. My wife has always owned Mercedes and she starts to worry when she has 100 miles range and I would tell her to quit worrying because even after that 100 miles it has a reserve. Not sure why I thought it was the norm for all cars to have a "reserve".
Mine starts "reminding" me every 5 mins when I get below 1/4 tank. 😀
I mean, I don't mostly DD a 22yo car for nothing.
It's so reliable it's just stupid, it's sat outside all winter (I used to have it in the garage) and fires right up and none the wiser every single time. They just never stop driving the way that they do, sure I'd love new tech but LS430 is one of if not the smoothest cars ever made and you ain't gonna find an engine and transmission as fantastic as those in virtually anything unless you spend well over 100k and even then.... You can tell me my car may need this or that or is out of spec but it sure drives fantastically for such a junker.
I don't buy them new because they aren't worth that to me, you also don't buy them. You rent them, I spend more than your car rental on my shooting hobby because I prioritize that and the relative experience I get from cars for a given amount of money always results in my buying used.
Just because I don't prefer to buy them new doesn't meant I can't and at the end of the day I have owned more, higher end cars than you have and I will continue to keep pushing to higher tiers. This year I'll be seeing a supercar added to the collection and a final edition Flying Spur in 2 years max.
If I want to buy a bunch of old depreciated high end cars I can do that too lol. All of us can.
Ive forgone blowing a lot of money on cars because I wanted my house paid off by 30, it's now paid off so if I really felt like it I can blow $5500 a month on a car of my choice......but that's wasteful in my mind.
Everyone else is so I'll use AI too..... used LS430s currently sell for more than S65s that cost double new.
Remember, an S65 cost double the amount an LS430 did when new..
I'm using model year 2004 for reference.
Bottom Line
- Lexus LS (including the LS430): Generally better resale retention than big-price Mercedes performance sedans. It’s often a more stable used value play because reliability and lower running costs keep buyers interested.
- Mercedes S65 AMG: Depreciates very steeply, especially V12/AMG models — so while they can be exciting to own, they tend to lose more value relative to their original price.

lol what exactly did you ask it? an S65 to any LS 430 is really a pointless comparison, the constant back and forth that happens here is mostly because toyota didn't even try to compete with anything at that price point when clearly they have the funding and knowledge to do so if they cared

Buyers in that segment (like me) don't care about what they offer way above where we are at pricewise, we aren't shopping at that level. Most people don't compare cars wildly different in price. Its one thing to say now, "Hey, why not spend $5,000 more and get the V12" when back in the day that difference was $60,000.
Hey @SC300Es , clear out your PM box, tried replying to you and it says its full...

Yeah when you get to the S55, S65 and S600, the W220 in those trims is better on the balance than an LS430...but that doesn't mean that the LS430 isn't the superior car when compared to what a buyer interested in an LS430 would compare it to...which is an S430...perhaps an S500.

That's like me saying a 2k11 is a better gun than a Sand viper because more people buy the 2k11, makes zero sense.
Just because you aren't willing to play in the top tier doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
You literally are contradicting yourself, saying the real versions of the other cars are better yet still insisting the LS is the better car.

The S600 being the best doesn't mean that the S430 is automatically a better value than the LS430.
If I was buying a 330i, it would be due to the 330i being better than an IS350. It would have nothing to do with the fact that the m340i is faster than an IS500 or that the M3 exists with zero competition from Lexus.
Not everybody is a max prestige/clout chaser. Very few people think the way you do. Buying a 20 year old car and then tearing it down and restoring every part to factory spec is very unusual. Extremely unusual, honestly, especially for anything that isn't a classic hot rod. But then I didn't grow up wealthy with an obsession with having everything be perfect, immaculate, and prestigious.
Hww many S65s are still on the road today versus LS430s? Or S600s for that matter?
Lol I'm guessing farrrrrr more LS430s.
Number vs. number wouldn't be fair bc LS430s sold like hotcakes (gee imagine that), so let's make it numbers of them on the road compared to how many were sold.
