My doctor best friend helped me out today by getting the crashed Hyundai for me and dropping it at the shop. Says his Q7 towed it great

I think the fuel gauge actually is pretty accurate, probably not MB level, but when I ran out of gas that one time the needle was at the peg, dead bottom lol.

Once that needle gets below the line get your *** to a gas station quickly lol.

Mmm, gotta disagree on this one. At the time the LS430 was absolutely among the best cars available in its segment, which is why it constantly won all of the comparison tests it was a part of. When we were shopping for one new, you would drive the German competition and there was just absolutely no way to justify the increased cost when the LS430 was just better for less money.

It's not better, same day I bought my first one I also test drive and almost bought an S600 instead. There was zero contest between them and guess what? Lexus never offered a car of that tier, I don't care what the reason was or that it was not good enough or a bad value for money.

If I want the best I'll go with the best, two other areas in my life I blow stupid money on small gains but at the end of the day better is better and any excuses are just cope.

Comparing an LS430 to a V12 S600 is a ridiculous comparison...the S600 was twice the cost of the LS430. Nobody buying new was comparing the two. Compare it to an S430 or S500 of the same year and the LS430 is a much better car for less money. My Dad always wanted an S Class but when we drove them back to back there was just no contest, the LS430 was nicer inside, rode better, had better tech, was quieter and more refined feeling...AND cheaper.

Thats why the S Class at the time came in last in comparisons and LS430 came in first.

And you said it yourself, before you bought your LS430 you almost bought an S600...but you didnt. Why not?

The LS 430 is generally considered maybe the best quality car ever built. Here it is beating all the Germans and Jaguar in a 2004 comparison.

6. Benz S 430
5. VW Phaeton
4. Audi A8L
3. BMW 745i
2. Jag XJ
1. Lexus LS 430

Obviously it never offered a V-12. The LS 430 never really appealed to me and only does now cause i’m older. I likely would never buy one.

Beat ya to it

Of all the LSs we/I had, the 430 was my least favorite, but its position within its peers at the time is undeniable.

I have price shopped gasoline before and almost paid the price for it too. Once I gambled on finding a gas station later and almost didn't. Plus, as a family we always run late to events, so I just gas it(with the pedal) and decide to deal with filling up later.

@patgilm I feel bad but in the end it worked out. Lesson learned.

Long story but the lesson learned is the Porsche isn’t messing around with DTE, there is no reserve like all of my other cars even though I always refuel with a quarter tank left.

@BayeauxLex If you ever buy a Porsche, remember this!
Hey you didn’t run out and you learned the limits of your car. And hopefully everything is still working as normal.

Not a bad idea to learn how your vehicle accelerates floored and how far can you go on a tank of gas. Never know when you may need both. Had to drop down a gear in the Honda today merging on highway as I was committed to getting on highway and the truck wasn’t willingly slowing down for me.

I thought about the fuel pumps. What are the chances I messed anything up? Also, my stop/start works normal now, too bad.
BMW has a reserve. It will show reserve I believe when the DTE is 49 then again when it’s 29. I’ve gotten it down to 1 and according to the pump that 1 was 100% accurate. Had the fam with me as well, decided to get gas after church.

Noted!! I believe it!!

The LX570 is ridiculous, in the opposite way. The light comes on with 5 gallons left!!!! That has to be for off roading to scare people to plan accordingly.
On our old LX 570 when the DTE displayed 0 there was still 4 gallons left. I remember 1st time I learned, I was on the phone with my aunt telling her something is about to happen as the DTE dropped to 0 as I was maybe little over 3/4 mile from the gas station.

I believe my LS 460 DTE wasn’t as inaccurate as other Lexus/toyota models.

Even our RX 450h had a healthy hidden reserve.

My wife would have been reminging me every 5 minutes once the gas needle hit 1/4 tank.
Buy her a kindle or iPad to keep her busy so she won’t notice. 😆

Thats not a reserve if its showing 49 and 29 DTE. A reserve would be if there is still gas there after it reads 0.

The word “Reserve” displays then after you acknowledge it (pressing the BC button) it goes back to showing a number. Does same on Supra as well.

.
Also, I think it broke JD Power's record as highest tested car of all time, something like that..

I mean I don't dd a 22yo car for nothin. It's just so buttery and silky smooth in every single thing it does. And it never breaks!

I get it but that’s not what we are talking about when we talk about a reserve. BMW is trying to encourage you to get gas by saying it’s on “reserve fuel”. When you get to 0 DTE you’re going to run out of gas.

While Toyota/Lexus is telling you “F around and Find out” when the DTE displays 0/refuel😆

@patgilm

In honor of you today. 😁 After the pump stopped I still had around 1.6 gallons left give or tank with the DTE showing 8 miles. Running it down like this makes it easier for me to calculate how much 🌽⛽️ to mix. Wife was in car with me today. 🙃
