Neat!!!!!! I forget what oil goes into the SL, but it gets a Mercedes dealer service once a year.
I recommend to use a VW505.01 type oil since you are going for max protection and don't have any special systems needs like turbos, GPF, DI or anything like that. It will be extremely resistant to wear and sheer stress in particular as that oil is designed for PD TDI engines that have absurd cam lobe loading
Gas price-spikes almost always occur when there is a crisis (especially a major-crisis like this one) in the Middle East. A significant portion of the world's oil-commerce, in tanker-ships, passes through the Strait of Hormuz, where there are a lot of warships in the area on both sides, and is which is vulnerable to Iranian and terrorist attacks/blockades or shutdown. It's very difficult (and expensive) to even get these tanker-ships insured, for obvious reasons. And, cargo-ships/tankers face hazards from not only combat or terrorism....look at what happened in Baltimore a couple of years ago with the Francis Scott Key bridge....and in New York City, on the Brooklyn Bridge.

lets work on getting the plastic engine cover off first and then move on to oil changes lol... but the M113 takes any oil that falls in the MB 229.5 spec, i use 5W-40 in mine as opposed to 0W-40 since if it's below 15℉ or so i'm not taking the car out anyway
why are you telling him to give the car diesel oil?

Much higher cleaning action and same tier HTHS vs gas oils and since he doesn't have DI, Turbos, or any form of DPF/GPF the high SAPS content isn't a drawback at all. Plus it's cheaper, no DI means no LSPI risks on that oil unlike with DI cars that need an add pack that stops LSPI, if he had a DI car
I would suggest an oil with a compatible add pack for that use that has the highest HTHS and overall protection. I start with protection level and quickest cold start pressure/flow rate for a given load carrying.
Stability is then the next highest thing I recommend but I place it lower as I believe in changing often enough that long term breakdown isn't a factor.
In terms of protection vs cost you can't beat 505 if you don't have a restriction preventing its use. 229.5 is great as well so it doesn't matter that much but I know that 505 has insane protection for very highly loaded cams and high ask resistance. VW504 also beats 229.5 on wear testing requirements etc but if you are going to use that just step all the way up to 511
Most of my stuff is on VW511.00 though so I only need to stock 2 types of oil for myself. My diesel is so old spec it can use nearly whatever I have laying around from the other cars

I saw an old Toyota Matrix, lowered with spoilers this week
It was debadged all except for the trunk lid.
The badge on the trunk lid was chrome and all it said was i8.
I have no idea what "i8" is but I thought it was odd.
First, the Matrix doesn't have a conventional trunk-lid....it has a rear hatch-opening instead. Second, I think you confused the "i8" with an exterior badge for the Matrix's (or whatever Toyota it was) 1.8L engine.

Got a little part in the mail today which is kind of cool.
One thing I don't like about my S580 is the console area is too plasticky, the piano black plastic on top and when the slide is open the cupholder/storage area is also just all black plastic. I found this part that I think dresses it up nicely...

The finish of the metal matches all the other metal accents in the car perfectly.

Thank you. @mmarshall .
Yeah, it definately had an "i8" badge on it.
I looked at it from 3 feet away and did a double take five times. Lol
What the owner was trying to do with that badge I have no idea.
