Yep, we have roughly the same size battery and we have no issues either. I'm talking about the likes of the 200kWh batteries on some GM EVs - so XXL, not our XL!

Ain't that the truth! My neighbor has a Hummer EV and he occasionally has to top off at the local EA station because L2 isn't cutting on heavy driving weeks

i'm amazed that the tesla charger that was included does both level 1 and level 2 (but only up to 20A on level 2 i believe!) it comes with 2 plug adapters... a reg 3 pin 120v outlet one and a some other 240v one. i use it with a 120v outlet as a 'trickle charger' lol since i don't drive the car often.
20A @ 240V though is still 4.8kW which isn't terrible for a model Y.

The Tesla Mobile adapter does up to 32A

so i think you need an ‘actual physical charger’ regardless.
When I say "charger" I mean the hardwired wallbox. I will have to buy a portable charger to plug into the outlet sure. Thats a good bit cheaper than a wallbox though.

I'm not really worried about charging at 50 amps vs 40 amps, we're going to charge even an EV every night when we park, its just the way we prefer to do it so they will never have a ton of recharging needing to be done.

Question about a wallbox, does the plug need to be 'hung up" on the box for any reason? I say this because this is where I want to set it up. The red circle on the back wall is where I want to put the plug or the wallbox. Right now the Pacifica charges in front on the drivers side, but that will change depending on the vehicle. I would continue to "hang up" the plug on the existing hanger where the 110v charger is plugged in now to the right.

If we got an MB PHEV they charge at the rear on the drivers side. Toyota PHEVs charge at the rear on the passenger side etc, so I want to be able to make it work regardless of what we get to replace the Pacifica next fall. If it charges in the front we don't want to have to walk back to the charger and then walk back up to the port...does that make sense?

May be that the best way to future proof it is to go ahead and run a 60A circuit and hardwire a wallbox...maybe they can be daisy chained but when we have two plug in vehicles we want to be able to charge both every night in their spots where they always park, don't want to be moving stuff around to charge. Have until the S580 goes back in summer 2027 to worry about having two though.

Basically all wall units have very generous cable lengths. I wouldn't over think it at this point.

Also, deals on id.Buzz's keep getting better

I don't know anything about this dealer other than it's in VA, but that's some good pricing for a van

She would love an ID Buzz lol, lucky for me the range is terrible!

I really wish they would make an MB GLS PHEV...or an X7 PHEV.

Will think about a 60A circuit and a wallbox...

portable (14-50) level 2 chargers that do high amperage are barely any cheaper than hardwired ones.

no.

can't daisy chain (lol, that would double the current going through the wiring when both charging), great for pyrotechnics though.
most flexible would be hardwired chargers center of parking space for each on back wall or side walls. then cord can go around to wherever charge port is.

Agree, no need to overthink this. Never hurts to have a little extra headroom, but your original plan was fine as it was.

GM engineer who drives Hummer told me L2 takes a while so he supercharges on the go.

There actually are units that can be daisy chained on the same circuit that will load balance for two vehicles, obviously not giving 48 amps to each car when charging at the same time.

On my side I wouldn't want it on the back wall because people walking through the door would have to step over the cable, I would want it on the side wall then it could wrap around my car to the drivers side if its there and people can still walk through the door without tripping over the cable. Behind that wall is also the storage room where the breaker panel is.
