2025 December to Remember Lexus
Right on queue, Ive gotta go out this afternoon and rake a billion leaves and put them in yard bags in what appears to be Mach 1 wind speeds. I too will attest to not being a "yardwork and landscaping enthusiast"
I have a guy that comes and does that haha. Well worth the money!
huh, what?
i think you're saying a car 'enthusiast' must mean someone who loves driving on public roads, even in traffic. i disagree. in fact, i know and have met many tesla owners with self driving that are wildly enthusiastic about that capability.
no idea how this relates to cars... i like the results of yard work, but i don't like doing it. i like what cars enable but you don't agree that most driving is boring? like driving to a grocery or other store/business? driving through neighborhoods with speed bumps and parked cars? your late night blasts on empty roads are a different thing, lol.
so what? are you saying that doesn't make you a furnace and water tank 'enthusiast', lol? ok, that makes sense
tons and tons of people are car enthusiasts, that is, they appreciate cars, whether they drive much at all of not! as you saw, i went to a car show this weekend. enjoyed it much, and a wide variety of cars and owners i talked to. also met a couple of tesla owners who attended, one with a new one like mine, and first thing he said was how he didn't drive to the show and asked if i have the latest fsd software.
this guy was DEFINITELY an enthusiast.

Also proving my point here man, you aren't a car enthusiast if that's your mentality.

For me the same example would be yardwork, I do it because I want to maintain a standard of appearance but I do not give a damn about planting stuff for progressive bloom, what type of grass ratio I have, what bushes etc work well next to each other etc etc. I simply don't care past "does it look good and can I not mess with it much"
I have literally done a furnace and water tank service as a fun day off activity so I can enjoy the fact everything is set exactly perfectly.

i had to visit someone this afternoon... selected the destination and touched the start self driving button. i enthusiastically watched what it does as always to see what it does well and not so well. i'm beginning to be able to predict what it will do and when it will do. i enthusiastically play with the 5 'modes'- sloth (hilarious name), chill, standard, hurry, and mad max (haha). upon returning to near my home i enthusiastically watched how the car opens my gate as it approaches, then opens the garage as it approaches, folds the mirrors, and parks. amazeballs.
initially, my other half was rigidly adamant that i NEVER engage fsd while she's in the car. since then i engaged it in our community (car's going so slow she wasn't concerned), then on the highway with my hands hovering around the wheel doing nothing. now she's 100% used to it and doesn't care! she's happy about how enthusiastic i am about it.
so sadly, with tech like this (and so much more) and after selling my lexus, i guess this is my december to forget lexus, at least for now.

If a so-called FSD equipped vehicle would drive to the grocery store by itself for curbside pick up and return home that would be great. Otherwise, if I have to go in the car and ride over speed bumps and all the rest and you describe... not so much. To use your analogy, current FSD is akin to having to sit in the seat of a riding mower for the grass to be cut. I mean... might as well drive if I have to sit in the seat anyway.

but i think it's only a matter of time before we can send cars (ours or others like uber) on errands.
I just use a modified lawnmower to shred them, by modified its running faster than factory rpm for stupid blade velocity and the blade is beyond razor sharp.

this guy was DEFINITELY an enthusiast.Same deal with braking etc, there are many things I can do to have fun with even a mundane drive like taking a roundabout and extra lap at the limit of grip just to feel it.

We've been able to since the advent of cars, it's called send your driver or spouse out. Now it's just being democratized via tech on a shadow of the real thing like everything else
That is in fact the best solution if you can shred them into the smallest pieces for fertilizer. This thread has taken quite the turn - from December to remember to landscaping, gardening, washer and dryers, etc. LOL.
