At some point Toyota decided that Lexus would be an Acura and Lincoln competitor rather than a BMW/Audi/Mercedes competitor.
I don't know if you will agree with me or not, but IMO, recent Lincolns (on the average) have had far better interiors and more solid materials in their bodies and interiors than recent Lexus products. However, the Lexus drivetrains are likely to be more reliable.

No 4cyl in the X5 and you can get the X3 in either 4cyl or 6cyl.
I commend BMW and MB for giving customers choices. The GLE can be had in a 4 cyl, 6 cyl and an 8 cyl, X5 in 6 and 8. Both have excellent PHEV options also. Choice of powertrain doesn't limit options either, can spec a GLE350 same as a GLE580.

And those vehicles are all on dedicated luxury platforms that aren't just FWD Toyotas with leather seats.
