Is anyone excited for this car? This thing needed to come out in 2017.
I am, if it's below 200k I would buy one. I don't understand how anyone could not be excited about the car if priced right, its like a better looking (subjective of course), more reliable AMG GT 63 that will hold value better. Considering the car has been spotted testing against the AMG GT 63, that gives me hope it still might be in the same ballpark price range. Really the only buzz kill will be if the price is too high. It looks mean, wide, low, has that Japanese style, sounds exactly like I would imagine a Japanese turbo V8 would, slightly subdued, smooth and composed. If you look at the interior it still has the katana style door handles like LC and ES, actually they might even be from the parts bin, which would be good as it would point to it not being completely bespoke and expensive, though that is the only familiar thing I can spot. Even if it's a hybrid (which is pure speculation, I think it will be ICE), I would not mind, anyone that's driven a good hybrid mainly anything from 2017+, knows it really is the best of both worlds, quiet cruising, great fuel economy, huge range, engine there when you want it.
My bad. Guess we better hold on to the ones that we have because majority of them aren’t returning anytime soon it seems. GM needs to retool their V8. It doesn’t appear to be a good long term reliable engine like they were pre AFM.
EVs are like cell phones. They’re good until the newest model comes out a year later
I mean, I'm not saying it's gonna be like it was... I only wish. (5 series V8, E-Class, etc.)
But V8s are NOT going anywhere.
An old friend from 20 years ago recently got back in touch with me, and bought an EV.... here's what he said about it lol....

More reliable? Are you sure? Are you totally sure they won't pull a V35A again? So far all we have seen torn Toyota with turbo engines is that they spent 20 years learning nothing how to make one from their rivals.
Interior looks much less complex and cheaper than the LFA so there may be a chance it's cheaper than that but I honestly doubt it

This new Lexus has a V8.
I think versions of this V8 will trickle down.
No way this is some 400k car, Lexus already did that. And it was a success that showed the world they could make...a 400k car, IMO (I know some of you disagree.)
Sure and it's more than likely the 6 with 2 more cylinders, and that thing has a bad design. Maybe (hopefully) it's UR based and won't have problems
Ah... Well, at least there's the correct number of cylinders under the hood. That's at least a start!!!!
I don't think they'll base it off the 6 now, I think it's possible but I assume this V8 was the one that was in development before Toyota scrapped them.
Considering this is a homologation GT3 car, I am hoping the engine is derived at least in basic form from the GT3 car, although it doesn't necessarily have to be at all related.

Lexus doesn’t have the brand cache to sell cars over $100k let alone $200k
MB can’t give away the new GT63 coupe and I don’t think the SL is selling well either. I just think most ppl in the $100-200k price range get a Corvette or 911. You also have so many options over $200k - Maserati, Aston, Bentley, McLaren etc.
Nothing Lexus has done shows me they are serious about building a performance brand which requires a lot of investment and continuous product development.
Hell you can’t even custom order a $100k + LC500! How can you compete with enthusiast brands that are all about customization?!
I do like the design of the LFR - i hope there is ICE V8 version only without hybrid crap and tops out at $125k which is where Z06 sits. Anything over would be a hard sell imo.

I think there is a near zero chance this car will not have a hybrid component. The days of pure NA V8 are gone for Toyota and the writing has been on the wall with the iterative cancelations of or departures from everything the UR engines go into.
Potential consumers know next to nothing about this car.
Potential consumers already know enough about this car. Toyota already vetted existing LFA owners for this car and has showed it to them privately when they hosted the LFA gathering earlier this year.

The values of hybrid performance cars are not doing well.
Even the Lambo Revuelto is depreciating.

I thought someone with an LFA attended that event and said they were not shown the new car.
Nice read! Cool to see Toyota's involvement in F1 again (2002-2009 they fielded a factory team). A wealth of knowledge to be had and it sounds like the F1 drivers liked the two vehicles a lot
Toyota is now an “Official Technical Partner” of Haas, with Gazoo Racing providing support in design, aerodynamics, technical expertise, and manufacturing. GR drivers, mechanics, and engineers are actively participating in tests conducted by the F1 team.
