Just wanted to point out that I've spent virtually my entire life driving low-slung sedans in Chicago, while you need an LX for those brutal Knoxville winters.

Lol you guys don’t get it. This is Tennessee, not Wisconsin.

We aren’t set up for snow like yalls. 2 winters ago I was absolutely driving the LX through ten inches of snow for several days. Here the main roads get treated but none of the back ones, not really.

Glad AWD sedans are good in the snow too (never said they weren’t) but we’re really comparing them to a Land Cruser, capability wise??? Lol I’m not sitting here saying my SUVs can cruise the autobahn as well as a Mercedes lol.

In that said snow, I passed so many stuck people in 4x4s it was ridiculous. In my parents own neighborhood. I helped tow a guy up the hill that time, they live on a big hill. They looked at me in shock when I first got there bc I made it up the hill so effortlessly. The GMC needs better tires but it’s not as confidence inspiring in the rough stuff, not like the LX is.

There Is a clip online that I can’t find anymore of an LX driving like a snowplow through snow at about 25mph, snow up to its grill with the flashers on while everyone is is stopped, stuck. I have tried to relocate it. Y’all wouldn’t be getting through any of that in sedans, I promise you that one.

This is kind of silly honestly. None of it matters. We are free to buy what we want. Even if someone is wrong to other people, who cares??

And you very, very rarely ever get snow in Tennessee, let alone 8-10 inches. There is no requirement to have an SUV in Tennessee to deal with snow lol. Buying a vehicle because somebody thinks someday maybe they might need its capability is a uniquely American thing. Nobody is saying that you shouldn't buy what you want, we're pointing out its what you want not what you need.

8 inches of projected snow makes your local news:

https://www.knoxnews.com/story/weath...w/72240554007/

Its kind of like here. We do have big snows, but thats pretty infrequent and a snow where we have roads covered in 10+ inches of snow is a once every several years event. Not something you need to factor into a vehicle purchase decision.

I promise you I can drive through anything that might get thrown at me in Tennessee in my AWD sedan. If there is a big snow and I can't, honestly why would I need to be on the road? Of course the Land Cruiser is more capable, but it has more capability than the vast, vast majority of people need. Thats the point. If you had a cabin up in the mountains somewhere that you went to all the time and it was really remote and the roads went untreated all winter, then you would need that capability. Plenty of people do have those situations but most people don't.

The last time I encountered a major storm on the road back from upstate NY we had the 2011 Grand Cherokee, and there was nowhere near 8-10 inches of snow on the road. The time before that I was on my way to WV at night and encountered a really serious snowstorm up in the mountains on 64, and I was in the RWD LS400...and I was only 18...and I got where I was going.

I have owned several SUVs. My first car was a Ford Explorer and we had two Grand Cherokees. I loved the Grand Cherokee so much that when our kids were born and my wife insisted we had to have a minvan I considered trading my Lexus sedan and keeping the Grand Cherokee for myself. The only reason we don't have an SUV now is my wife thinks we must have a minivan because of the sliding doors for the kids. If it weren't for that we would have an SUV instead of that right now.

I always debate going from a sedan to an SUV whenever my lease ends on my car also...I could see myself in a Range Rover next time very easily. Or even a GLS or X7. I do like the panache of a luxury sedan and I do like the easier drivability. Ideally I would have one of each.
We rarely get snow but whenever we do I’m grabbing the 🍿 📺 🛏️ because I’m not leaving the house if I can help it

And I thank your wife for choosing a minivan. I seek them out in parking lots if I can’t park away from everyone.

Oh when it snows I’m out tearing it up.

But then I come back home by dark.

And lol this is America, can we shyt can the “you don’t NEED this you just WANT it” stuff? That’s basically life in the United States. I don’t need a Rolex but I sure wanted it. My want can be justified into a need if I choose. It’s a free country and nobody’s business honestly. We all have stuff we don’t need by that logic.

Thats actually exactly why she insists we have to have a minivan, so the kids don't fling their doors open into other cars!

Nobody is saying anything to the contrary...Its the silly American justification as a need I find funny. Just own that you don't need it and you wanted it.

I don't need a $140k S Class, I wanted it. I have zero issues admitting it. If I were saying "well I spend so much time in the car" or "well I drive clients around" or "well I need it for image for work" I would be full of crap lol. The only person who needs a car like this is somebody who drives people around for profit.

We DO need a minivan or other MPV for the space. We use the space all the time.

All I actually need is my old Jeep. It will technically perform everything I actually require for work and will also get me around to places, anything more is just because I want it.

Nice to have for sure but I do not even need the Jetta since I can afford to feed the Jeep it's 13.3 mpg without it effecting me.

I have never in my entire life (32 years driving) owned a vehicle with the front wheels even optionally powered. 2wd Ranger, 2wd Dakota, 3 consecutive RWD 3-series.

If you have winter tires, RWD is great in the snow.

For sure. When we had two AWD SUVs on all-seasons in the driveway, bad weather meant we were taking the RWD sedan with 500+ lbft of torque because it was the boss on Blizzaks, and handled the snow 20x better.

But when we traded my wife’s RX350 for the Q7, we got it a set of winters and it’s actually quite frustrating trying to get it out of sorts in the snow. I gave up trying to teach my then-15yo winter driving in it.

Oh yeah. Up in ROC there are tons of RWD cars with winter tires on, sometimes on ugly *** rims.

What a PITA though to change twice a year, though I"m sure everyone gets used to it. It's like having to pull the boat out twice a year for service.

Agreed, I never had issues with my 430/460 even though I expected to the first year.

Haha it's funny though, yelling at the car to go sideways when it just doesn't want to.

LS430 is a NIGHTMARE in snow. I believe you guys about the winter tires, but it's hard to swallow that any LS430 could be anything more than a disaster in snow... that's how bad it is.
