I just want to know how they addressed the engine being cold all the time and only coming on when needed. Not getting a chance to warm up. Seems like a recipe for a reliability disaster.
It's the worst of both. Just get a full EV if that's what you want instead of suffering an underpowered small 4 cyl or 6 cyl that doesn't have full power on tap if the engine is off. Or a pure gas car so you have no drawbacks
Come on. It’s not always about mashing the gas and doing “pulls” as you call it. A lot of times they are driven by our wives or kids. It’s not a requirement for everyone to have a fleet of high powered vehicles.
And most of us don’t like planning our trips around an EV. PHEV eliminates that issue.

Exactly lol. The cars we are talking about are a Minivan and a Rav 4.

Yep......agreed. That's just about the point where I typically gas up...except, of course, that an Encore GX probably holds a lot less gas in the tank than an S-class.
Its 22 gallons, so a pretty big tank. I got gas every Tuesday when they used to do 20c off Tuesday, now they don't do that anymore so I usually stop on Friday and fill up regardless of what level the tank is at.
I’m not talking about hybrids, i’m talking about PHEVS. Where the engine is only inclined to come on during full throttle situations. Or when the EV battery is depleted.
In a regular hybrid the engine is constantly running. It really only shuts off at very low speeds.

On the PHEV Rav it will stay in EV mode at WOT up to 84mph.
In our RAV4 hybrid, it will go into EV mode at highway speeds up.

I know right?

Like Dave said that isn't the case, the engine will shut off under many non load situations in a regular hybrid.

Does it have an EV lock mode? The Pacifica doesn't, you have to keep the throttle under the 50% mark to keep it from turning the engine on under acceleration.
The S580e had an EV mode also where you can force it to only use the EV motors
