General Car Conversation 2025 - Part 1
For example, I use the fan speed dial all the time. I skip and rewind songs all the time. I use the home button to "clear it out" all the time. I finally found an auto climate control that I sometimes set the fan speed to manually, I'm embarrassed. But the A/C is typical GM which is to say freezing.
It's nice to do these things with tactile buttons so you don't have to take your eyes off the road. Also much easier for places where people just have to have gloves, granted that's not here in TN....

To me that screen is too small and all the buttons etc are just clutter, and I hate their gear selector. It just looks dated IMO.
The Escalade and Navigator will go back to an extent, it will find an equilibrium.
Case in point, all the crazy digital gauges in the 80s went back to clear, simple analog gauges in the 90s. For instance I see no point in passenger screens, I think they will quietly disappear. What we will find is a big screen, screen gauge cluster and physical controls for HVAC and drive/vehicle operation.

The passenger screens are really OTT, I absolutely agree.
They should have kept the column shifter and extended the screen more in ours.
GMC admits people want a column shifter, but they won't admit we want the old school kind back they always had so they gave us this silly stalk for 2025.
Those buttons, not my favorite either but they are Lexus quality feeling and you do get used to it. It's fun to put it in Park going 5mph. The truck just gently but quickly stops.

That is a column shifter on the new one and it works great. In this day and age there is no need for a big lever that moves along a 10 inch arc because there are no physical gears behind it to engage.
Believe it or not you do get used to the buttons like on ours.
And I know re column shifters, but people still liked them. Escalade owners especially loved the big shifter.
Most buyers mean the old one like that is the one they want back, regardless of the engineering and use etc etc. GM is especially good with column shifters, we've all discussed it before. I miss it on the old '03 Yukon.
But they're gone for good so it's moot.

I'm sure you do get used to them, but believe me you will like that shifter once you get used to it, it works just like the Mercedes shifter. Up for reverse, down for drive, button on the end for park.
Its nostalgia. Its like when people get into a classic with a 3 on the tree, boy thats cool but its just cool because its old. The reality is the big shifter just takes up space and blocks controls etc.

I would get these and not give it a second thought. I ran these on my LS460s and I have them on my S580, they are great:
On the S560 they didnt have the wide rear size (my 580 wheels aren't staggered), so I got these which are also very good, just a little sportier:
If you absolutely MUST have Michelins, get these...but I put them on my S560 and returned them...they're just not very good:

Those shift buttons trust me I know but you'd think you're in a brand new 1998 Lexus LS400 , they are fantastic feeling.
I was a Bridgestone loyalist for 20 years. I switched to Michelin Pilot all seasons about a month ago. They feel great so far. Bridgestone for whatever reason doesn't have an all season in OEM size for the IS 500.
Steve, looks like Montgomery County is bullseye for the snow tomorrow. Your Pirellis will get a good workout.
I have a good friend at work driving to Perryville, MD tomorrow. I told him it's probably not a good idea.

I say go with the Michelins. I never cheap out when it comes to tires.

Yeah it looks like we're going to get it unfortunately. I'll probably take the S Class out to see how it does but otherwise it'll be in the garage lol
What is this self seal stuff and does it actually work?
Thanks for the reccs everyone, these forums can be amazingly useful for stuff like this....when we aren't debating or collectively pulling something apart lmao.
The tire is so whacked it looks like I had a blowout going 90MPH, when I didn't even take it 1/10th of a mile, I babied it right back into my garage. It was a crappy tire, it came with my chrome OEM rims I bought.
