Once the overall scores were combined using road ride ratings, and track ratings. The Michelin primacy ranked 4th overall while the Pirelli P7‘s ranked 6th.

I put Yokohama Advan Sport + on my GS and I love them. They’re much quieter than the Continental Extremecontact DWS06 +. On smooth roads they’re pretty much silent. Ride quality feels the same though, but both tires are pretty comfortable on GS. They feel very athletic and grippy too.

Someone in the 4GS subforum said that the Yokohama‘s were much softer than the Continentals but I find that not to be the case. Both are firm but well composed.

Its slimy goop on the inside of the tire that seals if its punctures, I wouldn't look at that as a factor at all. I tend to stay away from models that come and go and gimmicky stuff like that.

You will be amazed by how much better the car will feel on new tires

You have to look at why it was ranked that way and judge what is important to you. The Michelins were ranked higher than the Pirellis because they have better handling and better wet grip, but the Pirellis ride better and are quieter. Thats why I like to read the results not watch the video.

If you want the softest, quietest tire its the Pirelli, I have had both like I said I returned the Primacy Tour and replaced them with the ancient Primacy MXM4 which were quieter and softer. The Pirelli P Zero A/S 2 and the 3 that I replaced those with were much better than the Michelins.

The pull of "Michelin" as a brand is very strong, I used to be that way too but there are better tires out there.

GMC admits people want a column shifter, but they won't admit we want the old school kind back they always had so they gave us this silly stalk for 2025.

Those buttons, not my favorite either but they are Lexus quality feeling and you do get used to it. It's fun to put it in Park going 5mph. The truck just gently but quickly stops.
Column shifters seem so old school to me. I’m glad GM finally got away from them. I’m reminded when I get in my grandpa ‘97 or somewhere around there Silverado with the column shift. I remember when he had an old 3 on tree old Chevrolet truck.

I was a Bridgestone loyalist for 20 years. I switched to Michelin Pilot all seasons about a month ago. They feel great so far. Bridgestone for whatever reason doesn't have an all season in OEM size for the IS 500.

Steve, looks like Montgomery County is bullseye for the snow tomorrow. Your Pirellis will get a good workout.

I have a good friend at work driving to Perryville, MD tomorrow. I told him it's probably not a good idea.
Having road raced motorcycles and now cars, good set of tires and brakes are the two important parts on a vehicle. They make world of a difference. I’ve seen huge differences making just a tire or brake change.

Yeah, I always watch the video and read the article. They used to put bar graphs and spider charts in their reports, but not anymore.

My dad is like that. He only buys Michelins. They’re not bad tires but as you said, they do lean more to the sporty athletic side now. Especially the Pilot Sports. But it seems like a lot of people even car enthusiasts seem to still think that they’re still the smoothest quietest tires available.

They still do the bar graphs, that particular test was just so many tires I think

Not on any of the other 2024 tire tests

UHPAS tires: no graphs or charts

Premium CUV tires: no graphs or charts

EV tires: no graphs or charts

Highway touring truck tires: no graphs or charts

I can’t post links for some reason so you’ll just have to take my word for it or look at them yourself.

But another thing I find interesting is that Consumer reports tire rankings are completely different from Tire rack. They rank Michelin at the top of every single tire category. But unlike tire rack, they don’t give a detailed test report…. And they don’t show metrics like braking distance or G Force skidpad grip. So I put more value in Tire racks testing.

My daughter has the Michelin self seal tires on her Bolt....the dealer warned us that if she curbs it, the tire itself will need to be replaced. Just replaced two of them last week

The GM HD trucks have a column shifter.

There is no reason on Earth to not offer it on non HD rigs as a no cost option. I would have chosen that no question.

I bet that feels GREAT to the touch and solid AF, slammable.

I work at a VW dealer and we used to stock Continental Contiprocontacts with Contiseal technology (that name is fun to say!). They were sticky inside, but I don’t know how effective they are with punctures. We stopped stocking them because CC owners don’t buy tires at the dealership anymore. And that was the only car they fit.

My manager said they got one in one with a dead mouse stuck inside one! LOL He said they put ‘em on a car and had to put extra weights to counterbalance the dead mouse!
