Right.....However as someone who does remember-- in the early 90s Lexus was out and blowing everyone away with the quality and luxury and had just introduced the SC coupe, Infiniti had a few pretty good cars like the J30 and Q45. Mercedes were still made like overbuilt safes, all of them. BMWs drove the old way. Acura had the NSX which beat Ferraris around the track yet were as reliable as any Honda.
Trucks weren't as cool that's for sure and SUVs pretty much non-existent. American made vehicles have come a lonnnnnnnng way since then. Other than a couple Cadillacs, the newer ones, there was nothing from America I really liked in the early 90s.
I couldn't afford Lexus or Infiniti in those days. My first new car I could actually afford and buy myself was a Toyota Corolla, I eventually upgraded that to a Camry
It also involves a giant bonfire and my cousin standing inside it with the flame retardant suit, The Topaz was a rental car lol
I have no idea how my Mother let my other cousin and I into that car with him...my Dad sure he was hammered but I'm still not sure how that happened!
My uncle was the lead singer of the band Faith No More, most of the time he was high, my mom wouldn't let us near him, much less get in a car with him 😂
Also, I wanted to update everybody on the hood warping issue that I had, if you remember. It is present when the car is warm and the temp outside is cold, then goes totally away when the car cools off:
And then there are these vents right under that area behind the turbos:
We think we have this figured out. A couple other members with 23 and 24 S580s have posted they have the same issue, but people with 21s and 22s don't have the issue. Well it appears that in 2023 they added those vents to that heat shield. This is a 2021 and you can see, no such vents:
What we can guess is that they added those vents in 23 and didn't make any changes to the heat shield on the underside of the hood to coincide with the heat coming from that area...and the result is the warping. One of the members is putting in for a TSB to be created...

I agree those vents probably exacerbated the problem, but if the designers had used thicker sheet-metal for the hood, it would have been more resistant to warping in the first place. Some of the sheet-metal on today's vehicles is so thin it is an insult.
And, to be fair, I'm not just criticizing M-B for that.....it is common issue with many manufacturers today.

after 2014 i lost much interest in watching F1... i understand it needs to stay relevant and showcase the most modern of technologies but damn as a pure spectator event i feel like it's been on a decline for the past 2 decades
how big and heavy they've gotten plays a role in this too, a current F1 car is huge compared to a 2004 car and has less power!
they've lost the whole aspect of essentially being the ultimate go kart... and because they're so big there's less room for passing and they just look like they're going slower, despite that not actually being the case
I rode in one at 90 MPH down a twisty country road at 1AM driven by my drunk and high cousin wearing a flame retardant suit covered in kerosene when I was 10...thats a story lol
That’s a crazy story. You probably look back and think how glad you are to have survived and how bad that could’ve ended now that you are older.

Are you serious? My ex-girlfriend in high school loved that song Epic and every time I hear it I automatically think of her.

Or they could have just revised the heat shield on the hood and it wouldn’t be an issue.

Yep. He was the original lead singer, Chuck Mosley who formed the band with his buddies. Unfortunately he had a drug problem and was booted from the band after a few years. The song "We care a lot" was a huge hit. He sadly passed from a drug overdose in 2017

Lol well, my uncle was the original lead singer, Chuck Mosley. You can Google "Chuck Mosley, Faith No More". He was extremely talented, but troubled. He unfortunately passed in 2017 from a drug overdose, he left behind two daughters and a wife. I had the pleasure of attending one of his shows when I was 17 at the Hollywood Palladium. I have a ton of stories about him in my younger days, but he spent the last 20 of life in Ohio, so I didn't see him much after he moved. He did a reunion with faith no more shortly before he died, and he also formed a band called "Haircuts that kill", but it was never as big as FNM.

aww man that's sad to hear... yea i see now he left the band in 1988, just before the stuff i know of theirs
still though that's a cool person to have in your life! i'll def be listening to some early FNM now

I used to have his first two original albums (vinyl), but don't know where they are, I've moved so many times in my life. I have his albums on Amazon music, but it's kind of painful to listen to because it brings back so many memories. One of these days I'll go through and listen to them
Yes new tires are great but my god $350 per tire????
You clearly haven't bought any large tires recently. And in this case, paid the "tax" to get a Toyota/Lexus dealer to special-order them for you. I bought 20 tires in 2023, and here are the per-tire installed prices at Costco, excluding taxes and fees:
Premier LTX 235/55R20 $298.97
Pilot Sport AS4 285/30ZR20 $331.98
Pilot Sport AS4 275/35ZR19 $315.98
Pilot Sport 4S 265/035R18 $307.98
Pilot Sport 4S 235/040R18 $244.98
Pilot Sport AS4 295/40ZR21 $424.98
Blizzak WS90 225/45R17 $221.97
Notice how the only two that are significantly below $300/tire before tax are the smallest ones. Taxes and state tire fees will add to this, but obviously that will vary by state. And again, this is at Costco, which tends to be dramatically cheaper than a dealer.
Basic 15-17" all-season touring tires are still quite cheap. But if you want performance tires for large wheels like I got, or 30" tall semi-offroad tires like went on J4R's 4Runner, you gotta open your wallet.
