My IS 500 just had the throttle body replaced at 14k miles. It's an issue on these cars. Not a big deal, it was replaced under warranty.
I don't seem to have the "chirp" noise from my HPFP. Hopefully that's ok but if it happens they'll replace that too.
Point is, even with a car that's been in production for a while riding on an old platform you can still have problems.
Btw @link13 don't let the above scare you from getting an IS 500 if you're still in the market for one.
No, it doesn’t and I am. I looked at the LS500 a bit but my concerns there are more significant. I would be buying used regardless. I like the idea of owning a V8.
So you beat on others stuff and don't see an issue? I'm not surprised you beat on your own stuff then lol!
You surely have a scan tool of some sort don't you? That has to be within your toolset and skill set to simply look at timing haha!
Cmon now. 50mph in parking lot isn’t beating on them. If that’s the case, you’re slaying cars on cannonball runs. 🤣
Plus this was over 20+yrs ago.
I’ve heard multiple tuners say 87 pulls timing so I’m not doubting you. It’s just not worth extra $21 to me honestly. A blower will force me to use 93😏
The vehicles that were tuned to run 91/93 get 93. The others that are tuned for minimum 87 get 87.

All of them🤥
I will say this, good thing to thoroughly look over your car before you leave valet. Depending on situation, I will pay valet extra for them to keep my vehicle up front and not to be moved vs parking it in a hairy self parking spot.
For the comment about a front wheel driver being fun with a hand brake, mine is not that. It’s a switch. I enjoy the Civic a bit in twisties but it’s basically an appliance to me. It’s comfortable on the long drives. It didn’t torture me like the rental Mazda SUV I rented did. I don’t want to sit in an office chair on a 7 hour drive. That’s basically the SUV/Minivan/CUV position. I prefer a seat. In a car. To each their own. I don’t value sitting up high. I look further down the road than most drivers do, apparently. Not saying I am better. I am saying it does matter and regardless of vehicle, most drivers in the US appear to not do that.
That’s why AJT won’t drive any vehicle faster than his V8s with fewer cylinders😆
Well I will say this, a similar power/speed R8 and viper both felt WAY better when off full boost and just generally smoother/more confident. Sound is also a hell of a lot better but at the time that flat 6 was the fastest thing I'd been in.
TT Gen5 vipers are a hell storm from 100-200 though, literally unbelievably violent. Doesn't feel dangerous in the chassis though
That IS350 literally sounded like a vacuum cleaner. I wasn't a fan because I was used to the LS which is also slower, but feels wayyyyy better down low and the UZ is a billion times more refined than that V6.
The Merc is an exhilarating car to drive. It's not fast by today's standards but oh it's plenty fun. Big, under stressed V8.
