it is smart what Toyota is doing. If you are towing with LX570, five gallons left (empty) becomes 2 gallons left (max tow and payloads) if you are towing a max load. The light comes on early to make sure those that are towing have a lot of advance warning.
in my E55 the low fuel light comes on about 3/4 of a gallon earlier than in the E500 or E320 models
same size tank, but that remaining fuel can be used up so quickly if you really start getting into it

That and for people off roading, get your *** back on the trail soon and find a gas station lol.
However for 98% of regular use it's annoying. I don't care how much gas it swills but the fuel needle literally starts moving if you drive it for more than 10 minutes lol. It needs the auxillary tank overseas 200s got. I can't even imagine how thirsty it would be full of gear and towing a boat. But I'd never worry about the engine being too strained, ever... unlike with forced induction.
The GMC they've figured a way to make it not seem like it's such a gas guzzler with the gauge and it actually does sorta work lol. Hard to explain.
LX has zero shame, anything with the 5.7 lol.

Yep, MB gauges are accurate and I prefer that. The coolant needle fluctuates. You really do have 1/8th a tank left when the light comes on. I also love the old school vacuum MPG gauge, it seems to be fairly accurate. And it's fun for the nostalgia.

FWIW I have driven my LS430 down to fumes more times than I can count, like seriously. Needle at the very bottom. Pull up to the pump and the car dies. I doubt an American workhorse 1500 V8 would have any problems, but I get it. LS is now 21 years old and drives like the day I bought it.

It's like you/we were saying about fancy high end cars. Who cares if they're old as long as they're in great shape and run like they should. I haven't driven anything less than a V8 in a while, I can't remember the last time.

hmm idk i think the LS generally depicts the fuel level more accurately, in the E55 when the fuel gauge reads half it's really only like 1/3 full... but maybe since it's the AMG it's calibrated to get your attention sooner and fill up now haha
Lol in the LS you'll run out when the needle bottoms out. I ran out of gas once and it was really embarrassing, a broken down Lexus in front of a BMW dealer. But I knew a tech there and he came to the rescue lol.

oh they switched things around then for your car... i've 'tried' to run out (ya know just for research purposes when i was younger lol) but even with the needle below empty i don't think i've ever been able to add more than 20 gallons, which means about 2 gallons left still in the tank
I've never run out of gas but my Dad did once in the LS400...
unless they changed things up for 1999 he had to like aggressively ignore the fuel gauge lmao... there's still like 3 gallons in the tank once the car actually reads 0 miles of range (which could be nearly 100 miles for that car in ideal conditions)

Don't bet on the 5.7. The Powerstroke has over 1000ft lbs of torque. 🤯

The low fuel lights are programmed to go off wayyyy early which is frankly annoying in the LX, I don't have a huge fuel tank like his Tundra.
It's a 24 gallon tank and the light comes on when you have 19 left.... absurd.
Don't get me wrong, I would get to a gas station.... but yeah.

Gas light comes on in truck when after burning through 30 gallons of gas which leave 8 gallons remaining. Hopefully you reset your trip after filling up and divide it by tank average will give me a good estimate of how much gas is left.
In our old LX, at DTE 0 miles there was 4 gallons left. When gas light on Prius starts flashing I can drive another 100 miles (80 miles past 0) if I average at least 45mpg while light is flashing (I reset trip B when it happens). In RAV4 prime and hybrid when refuel pops up, there’s 2 gallons left.
In the X7 and Supra with DTE 8 miles, you’re about to be stranded on side of the road 😲

700 miles towing 8k+ = a lot of fuel stops at half a tank. 😲
Just enough fuel for one day. For weekend x2 in fuel. Jack and tools under bottom shelf. Hard to see, TV mounted above top shelf. Fridge underneath bottom shelf. Microwave on bottom shelf. Misc stuff on side. I need to weigh my load.
Check out this old truck. A friend of mine bought it for around $800. It’s a 1988 Chevy S-10 with 68k miles. For some reason the values are a lot higher than what he bought it for. Someone offered him $7k already.
