General Car Conversation 2024 - part 2
You've repeatedly poo-poo'd plastic covers on the inside of the gas door when other brands have used them; and said that Lexus' cheap stamped metal with sharp edges was the superior and more luxurious design. Interesting how that opinion changes once Lexus decides to join their competitors.

The plastic gas door hinge vs that old metal spring hinge, the plastic full sweep hinge feels much better. Those old Lexus/toyota spring metal hinges are actually super cheap and they create that whole "bounce open" kind of action where the plastic full sweep hinge is damped and just kind of glides open.
Cheapness has nothing to do with it here, that big plastic hinge is no cheaper.

Should be capless fill, that's a great feature that you don't appreciate until you start using it.
I drive an LX so obviously I'm a fan but this one is just outclassed in every single area except off road capability.

Also @Toys4RJill about the metal hinge, makes sense. Pretty much everything in a Land Cruiser/LX is just tougher.

A nice metal MB cap is nice (lol I want one for mine!) but so is not even having to deal with it. I'm super fast when getting gas so it's one less step lol. BTW this should come as no surprise but the Denali gets even worse mileage than the V8 LX. At least the way I drive it around.

The other issue with capless fillers is if you do have a cap leak you can't just replace the cap, its a very expensive repair.
That metal hinge on that LC Jill posted is the exact same metal hinge thats on my 2003 ES....just sayin

I think you are over emphasizing the cost difference between extremely thin metal and quality plastic. That metal is not thick, its very thin actually and that butterfly spring hinge is not very robust. A big thick plastic hinge with dampening gears is not cheaper. Not saying the Tacoma has that dampening but the Mercedes does, for instance.
I find it funny you feel that removing a small cap to get fuel is an issue but you hate push button start and keyless entry lol

Good point about repairing that, and I've repeatedly said about the start stop is that it's a keys issue... I lose the keys. And it's frustrating to have to cycle it to just get the radio when you can just click the ignition back one notch with a car with a key. Also starting it to warm up takes 2 hands as opposed to just reaching over and starting it.
