Well blame the multitude of morons who have no clue they are driving around without headlights on for that. Least common denominator wins out....

I got into that W222, the door locks were really cheap compared to the old pneumatic ones.
The electronic door locks are way more reliable than those pneumatic locks though, when those go wrong they are very expensive to fix.

Fair enough, but they're robust. Mercedes had done that with the pneumatic locks etc for decades. That's an "if" if they break, not "when".

Theres a reason why they stopped doing it. It’s just needlessly complex and heavy and expensive when an electronic door actuator is much simpler.

sounds like you're saying the pneumatic ones are "more mercedes" then!

remember these from the late 60s/70s?

everything on the 600 that would normally be electric (windows, seat adjustment, etc...) was actually hydraulic and OMG the cost of repairs! a single 4 position drivers door window switch was $11,000... 11 grand!!! and that was the price 14 years ago who knows what it'd be now

Not necessarily.

TBH I'm not sure if my door locks actually are? It's just two doors, there is no air pump/vacuum that I'm aware of in the car.

But the way it all latches is amazing, first rate. Special. The door handles from both outside and inside are special in how they feel.

BTW to someone who asked W140 did have power up windows.

Only on early models. They did away with the power rear view mirror because it broke so easily.

That's an interesting point...but auto-up windows can still cause injury in convertibles if the top is up, particularly if it is a hardtop-convertible.

As to whether W140s had auto-up windows or not, I don't know.....maybe someone else can chime in.

I can't really think of anything with the GS or Highlander. On the Tundra, though, the gas tank door drives me nuts. It doesn't lock or latch. It's just spring loaded closed, but the spring is very loose and hardly does much. So the car wash fans or even a windy day in the parking lot can open it right up. So as I exit the car wash, I have to pull around the corner, hop out, and close it. Every. Single. Time.

This is a well known complaint on the Tundra forums. The only suggestion is to replace the spring, which I did, but it's the same OEM spring so the same issue persists.
